I've been using the Sandisk's extreme line of memory cards for over two years now. I am a hobbyist photographer, shooting mostly street, travel, and landscape photography. I use this card reader to transfer pictures to my computer.
I'm throwing a mix bag of comments about this product:
1. It's FAST. esp. if paired with Sandisk's extreme card line (mine is CF). I compared the copying speed side by side with a cheapo card reader and with my old and ordinary Sandisk CF card reader. I've also borrowed a friend's Kingston and RiData just for good measure. It isn't as fast as the first test, but faster than any other card readers I've used nonetheless.
Also, in my experience, the reader will perform best if connected directly at the back of your CPU (directly to the motherboard). I understand that in some cases, the cable might not be long enough. Just get a USB extension (max 1 feet just to be sure).
2. Material Used Feels a Bit Plasticky & Isn't Rigid/Solid Enough. I believe that this card reader is aimed for mid level to professional users that's why I am expecting something made of aluminum or anything that feels like metal. I don't think a card reader this size would weigh much if it is made aluminum or any similar material. This would be a great idea, esp. for professional photographers given their nature of work and their extensive use of their gears.
3. Guaranteed to Work. I just connect it to the PC and the computer instantly recognizes the drive, unlike my old card readers.
I believe that this is the best card reader I've bought. It's reliable, fast, and comes with a good product support and warranty (it's a Sandisk!). It's more expensive than your ordinary cheap card readers, but the speed, reliability, and the peace of mind it will give you knowing that the data will be transferred fast and without encountering any transfer errors more than makes up for the price difference.
Highly recommended.

I've gone through two of these already. Out of the box it is excellent. Yes, fast transfer. But the mini-USB port on the back of the unit is NOT robust. Very weak. After extended road use, the connection between the USB cable and the reader gets wonky, and the unit loses connection with the laptop, often during image transfer (I work on the run, out of the back of a van or in an airplane -- not a desk). Its predescessor with USB printer style port on the back of the reader is MUCH MORE robust.

Works flawlessly, accepts my CF card without having to fumble around having to align the card in the slot. SD card slot works just as easily. I've always found that SanDisk products have always been of the highest quality and would highly recommend.

It doesn't get better than this for [$], its reliable, well built, and it includes the recovery software to get files off of corrupted, or formatted cards. Transfer rate is only limited by being a USB.

Comments about SanDisk Extreme USB 2.0 Card Reader:
I use it mainly to download photos in RAW from my SLR's CF cards, but also JPGs from my digicam's SD cards as well as uploading mp3 and jpg files to my Motorola Rocker phone's micro SD card (with SD adapter).
The speed with which it downloads the RAW files is like lightning compared to hooking up the camera directly to the PC, plus I'm saving my camera's battery.
I also like the fact that I can keep it plugged into one of the USB ports all the time and just pull out the cards without having to go through the "Safely Remove Hardware" on the PC every time.
And it doesn't take up much space.

Comments about SanDisk Extreme USB 2.0 Card Reader:
I was looking for cheap, fast, and convenient transfer of CF and SD cards and found it. The unit is small and light, quickly mounts and only adds two drive letters. Transfer speeds are certainly faster than using the camera (Canon 40d)
I would prefer a unit without a cable since I move this between multiple computers but that's a minor hassle.

I bought this for use with my laptop while away from home. I use it to download Nikon NEF files from my D3, so the files add up to fairly large sizes. Works fast and flawlessly so far. It's slim and fits neatly in my laptop case. I've generally had good luck with SanDisk products.
