Ikelite NiMH Battery Pack for SubStrobe DS-160 & DS-125 (Replacement)
This Ikelite NiMH Battery Pack is for the Ikelite SubStrobe DS-160 and DS-125. The battery takes 1.5 hours to charge with the Ikelite smart charger. When fully charged the battery is good for 250 full flashes.

One of the main reason I travel to South East Asia is to take underwater photos. I usually take 100 - 250 shots per dive. This battery pack comes very handy, I can simply change battery between dives. Using the smart charger by Ikelite, it only takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge the battery. If you are diving on a smaller boat where power outlets are not available, have another fully charged battery is very ideal. The only reason I give it a 4-star is that it is a little heavy to travel with.

If it were lithium, it would get 5 stars, but it's a pretty good unit. I've been using the DS-125 for several years, and my 2 original battery packs are getting weak now, only lasting for 80-100 shots. That means I must change battery packs after every dive, and sometimes be judicious with my shots - not a good thing! Anyway, they do pretty well, and the DS-125 is a great strobe.

I replaced my older DS-125 battery packs and these last longer. Make sure you get the new Ikelite "Smart Charger" for this battery also. The chargers for original versions are not compatible with these newer batteries. However, the Smart Charger is compatible with both the old and newer batteries.

I have 2 DS-125 Substrobes but like having a spare battery so I can quickly replace the battery on my master strobe without having to wait for the used one to recharge. This is great for double boat dives when you can't recharge or for liveaboard trips where there is only a short time between dives and you may not get a full charge.

I do underwater photography since some time - it's my hobby I decided not to make any attempt to earn money on it to keep it as a pure pleasure. DS-125 is in my opinion very good performing strobe if ot one of the best underwater storbes in it's class. I have 2 of them and bought a new Ni-MH to replace old Ni-Cd pack I had on the older of them. Generally I can see much improved performance - it lasts longer. Otherwise looks like no difference. only irritating thing is that I can not use the old charger - only a new one.
