On my Nikon D90 it guarantees power for long events or week long vacations where recharging is impossible or inconvenient. I don't carry my charger on weddings/events any more. The D-90 is a power miser anyway but this addition is a joy. I have done over a 1K shots in high resolution with plenty of reserve. Having the controls on the grip are convenient for portrait shots. Only minor complaint is the shutter release is not as tactile as on the D90 body. Just be careful when removing the D90 battery access door (read the D90 removal procedure or break it) and don't loose it. With two fully charged EN-El3's your are "the (wo)man". It does add a little bit more heft to the camera with the added weight of the extra battery but weight adds to stability when a tripod is impractical. The D90 recognizes the install and notes the battery levels of both cells and when one is exhausted it automatically cycles to battery #2. If you are a serious user, amateur or profesional, this is a must have.

I purchased this product to give the D90 a bigger feel that might be better for my hands. I have not been pleased with it. I find that the way it screws into the bottom of the camera is annoying. The wheel has some play in it even when tight, no mechanical failures, just a bit disconcerning when shooting.
I also do not like the way the handgrip I have attached to it; makes it very difficult to mount on a tripod for portrait shots.
If you are just handholding, then I would say its fine. If you plan on doing a lot of tripod shots, don't go for it.
I know that everyone has their own opinion, thought I would share mine. OH, I should mention that I am using the grip with a Hakuba Grip-LH.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
This MD-D80 Multi-Power Pack was originally designed for the Nikon D80 but it fits and works just as well with the Nikon D90. My Nikon D90 now has the look and feel of the upper priced Nikons and provides me the extra battery life and extra control for shooting in the portrait position. It works great and well worth the money.

I use my D80 to take pictures of my kids playing sports. The MB-D80 increases my time taking pictures and allows me to more easily take portrait and landscape action shots.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
I use this grip with my D90 to provide more time between battery changes and to avoid the "chicken wing" effect when shooting anything in portrait orientation. The tactile feedback from the shutter button on the grip is different than the feedback from the button on the camera, but it is easy to train your finger to adjust for that difference. Removing the battery door from the camera takes a light touch and not a heavy hand to pry it free. The door stores snugly in the grip extension that enters the vacated battery space. If you plan to switch between grip and no grip frequently, you might want to consider buying a spare door or not stowing it in the grip.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
When shoting a great number of pictures having this battery pack was certainly most useful. It was a reliable source of providing the juice I needed for lots of flash pictures without having to lug a lot of batteries around. The unit is sturdy and easy to use.

It is really easy to use and not so heavy with the 2 batteries.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
The unit does everything it says it will do. Taking vertical portrait shots are so much more comfortable now.
I knocked off one star because it is so highly priced. I don't see that much of an advantage of this unit over third-party brands to justify such a big price difference. In spite of that, I wanted to stay with Nikon-branded accessories especially since the grip is something I'll be handling all the time and wanted it to be the same fit and finish as my D90 and this unit had the best chance of meeting that.
Also, I can no longer use my leather hand grip and using my Manfrotto quick release plate for my tripod means that I have it jabbing into my hand whenever I turn the camera for vertical. It's something that all battery grips do and I'll have to live with it I guess.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
The Nikon MB-D80 Battery Pack was a much needed accessory for my D90 camera, the MB-D80 does a great job at extending your battery power during extended photo shoots and having the option of using AA batteries is a added bonus. I found the MB-D80 to be comfortable and well balanced on my D90, the added weight provides better handling during wedding and portrait photography. I do a lot of nature photography and for that reason I ordered an extra MS-D200 AA battery holder with my MB-D80 Battery Pack, this gives me power to spare while working in the field.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
So glad I took a chance on adding this to my D90. Was a little hesitant because of the price, but after using it for a few days I can't imagine shooting without it. Most of my photography centers on pet portraits and this grip helps tremendously with maneuvering the camera around especially when using the larger zoom lenses. It also balances out the 85mm F1.4 and the 70-300mm very nicely.
And as for the extended battery life, haven't ran out of power yet but I'm sure it will at some point. I know this must sound odd, but the added stability to the smaller D90 is worth more to me than the added battery power.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
I shot over 1,400 pictures (without flash) on my D90 through 3 different lenses and still had more than half the battery life left when using 2 EN-EL3e batteries. I have not had any connectivity issues and I love the option to use AA's in a bind. I failed to give it 5 stars as it wasn't quite perfect in terms of fit an finish to the camera when mounted; I constantly feel compleled to check the tightness of the screw mount. It should, in my opinion have a solid Nikon feel when mounted and it falls just short.

this works great for anyone who like to shoot in portrait mode, only thing i found that you need to do is put a small spacer in between the camera and grip (it's a common problem with a d90), other then that it works awesome!

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
I have been using a Nikon D80 camera since 2007 but the lack of spare battery back-up has been a problem at times, and I have always felt uncomfortable with SLR cameras when taking vertical shots...Mostly I take grab shots, and outdoor landscape, architectural, people, etc. photos. So to alleviate both problems I bought the MB-D80 several weeks ago. Since I already had NiMH AA batteries and a good charger I use the battery holder feature, and keep the EN-EL3E battery for my back-up...The MB-D80 works just fine and I find vertical shot making much easier... I don't mind the extra bulk much, but it is so much heavier, loaded, than I assumed it to be (even if I had bought and used another EN-EL3E battery. But I will keep it and learn to adjust to the weight.

I am an semi-pro photographer who mostly does weddings and engagement photos. This battery grip feels very solid and well built. The colors matche my D-90 body perfectly. [...] I plan on shopping at B&H for everything else i buy in the future.
