I got the CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case when I bought my Nikon D90 and 18-200 mm lens. The 18-200 mm lens is a bit larger than the kit lens but still fits nicely in the case. Also, you can leave on the lens shade on as long as you reverse it before you store it in the case. The camera/lens slides in and out nicely.
This case differs from the old 35 mm film camera "ever-ready" cases in that it does not attach to your camera. There are slots in the case that allow you to close the case while the camera strap hangs out. This means that you can have the camera strap around your neck and put the case on or take it off.
There are two different ways you can pass the camera strap through the case. One way allows you to remove the case and separate it from the camera and strap. The other way, your case will still be attached to one of the slots but free of the camera. This is a little awkward but sometimes it is a better option than laying you case aside.
One feature that I did not anticipate: The case, when removed from the camera, can serve as a make-shift substitute for a tripod. Not as good as a tripod but better than just sitting it on a flat surface- there is a little bit of flexibility in aiming the camera.
The case is made of what looks like high-quality leather.

It needs belt/luggage loops near the top back and /or a grab handle on the back. Inside the cover there is plenty of room for some pockets for extra photo cards and maybe an extra battery.
It could be re-designed to leave attached to the camera when in use.

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
I have mourned the lack of a protective case for my camera ever since switching to a digital. This Semi-Soft case fit my Nikon D90 perfectly even with a longer lens on. Especially great is the fact that there is a little thin strap on the left that can wrap around your camera strap and snap onto the case. This way you can remove the case to take a photo and the case will just dangle until you are ready to put it back on. I love this case!

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
Perfect to carry my Nikon D-90 with 18-200 lens. Just the right size. Great protection with good padding. No room for anything else is only downside. You can quickly attach case to strap while shooting pictures. This is perfect for afternoon shooting with 18-200 or other lens that is not bigger. Good quality material. Will protect in drizzle or few minutes to get out of rain.not for downpour

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
This case is perfect if you want a very compact case that will provide light protection. I bought it to bring on vacation with me so I could put my D90 in my regular bag and not have to also carry around my bulky camera bag. Wouldn't protect against drops or anything major but it's just what I was looking for. Fit the Nikon D90 perfectly and really no room for anything else.

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
In my film SLR days I appreciated having a good leather case for my SLR to prevent it from getting knocked around, so I was pleased to see a case was available for the Nikon D90. This case is not as heavy duty as the old ones, but it is well made and it seems like it will provide good cushioning for the camera. I have a D90 with 18-105 lens and there is plenty of room for it.
I like that there is a little strap on the side of the case which can be attached so the case hangs from the neck strap (convenient if you are just taking a quick shot) or you can remove the case entirely.

I bought it for my nephew who has Nikon D90. It fits with 55-200 lens. He just felt a little disappointed from no pocket to store memory cards.

Fits very well with my Nikon D60 (18-55mm lens) . I used to carry my huge bag for the same and can now just carry the new case that I bought and be comfortable. Fits a spare battery easily too.

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
A nice, soft leather case and fits perfect for my D90 with 18-105mm lens. Only complaint I would make is I wish the mouth area was a little wider b/c I leave the quick release plate on the camera and that can be a snug fit. Also a difficult fit if you use a Black Rapid strap.

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
This is a lightweight, go-anywhere case. It fits my D90 with 18-200 Nikon VRII perfectly with the hood reversed. It protects the camera from bumps while being carried and minor drops. It is a perfect solution for a secondary case when you don't need all your gear.

They finally realize that people use long lenses from the get go and need a case to match. Takes my 18-200mm with room to spare and seals snuggly.

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
I use this with my D90, it works well. The only downside I have with it is a problem in general with cases. When it's not in use, it's cumbersome and gets in the way. I wouldn't let that prevent me from buying it.

Comments about Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case:
The case is solid enough, but if you have a Nikkor 18-200 with the lens hood, you'll have to take the lens hood off to fit it in this case. So I don't use the case much.
