It is a good cheap alternative to the Nikon SJ-1 Gel Kit. There is a pretty good selection of colors. This item is always sold out so be sure to sign-up ot be notified when it is in stock. I bought these as gels to use with my speedlights. They work. I am surprised though that Roscolux hasn't figured out yet to charge a little more and deliver these in a little pouch or case and maybe even with some kind of basic holder to attach to a flash.
These were originally meant to be samples for people buying larger gels for stage use etc. But since they are so popular with photographers for flash use there may be a missed opportunity here for them.
A slightly larger version would be nice also.

I'm pretty new to cameras and photography in general, and these little samples are pretty straightforward and easy to use with my little flash. I was kind of shocked at how many there were, it was a pleasant surprise. A+, would purchase again!

The small hole puched in them make them less than perfect, but for the price its a great value. You'll spend a lot more for ones that come without the hole and are individually labeled for photography.
And, if you do set lighting, you have to have these to make sure you order the right thing. That why they exist anyway.

Make no mistake about it, this little book has tons of gels! You will most likely be surprised when you get it. There's no way you're gonna use them all and you'll probably spend more time trying to find a cool way to store them than using them! B&H had the best price so I picked up two, and now have more gels than I know what to do with! The colors are well saturated and you'll have no problem getting nice color on your subjects or backdrops.

These gels fit well on my flash the holes in the gels that are there don't pose a problem for me. As others said they are thin, but they work and there's an enormous choice of them. For the money it's a great deal. You just have to find a way to mount them, and find a way (once their detached) to hold them together. I use a Bag tie.

I bought this swatchbook to go with my Canon 580EX ii. As others had indicated the gels would be just the right size to work with the 580EX ii. They cover the head of the flash but just barely. There isn't room to affix them with a cinch strap or anything so a different style of gel holder would be needed.

First off, I don't recall if this item's description says it or not, so let me point out: this swatchbook is HUGE. There are a total of 500 colored gels here (including approximately 20 textured gels and paper samples), each with an accompanying info sheet (sodium to tungsten correction, fluorescent to daylight correction, etc).
I would recommend cutting off the plastic pin holding the gels together, picking out a small number of gels that you use frequently and keeping them in a small plastic case, or doing what I did and separating them by color and attaching small metal ball chains for easy access.

I picked up this product to go along with my 430EXII. Given the price, there was no reason not to add it to the cart.
The product itself fits my 430EXII with some overlap if you want to velcro it to the sides.
Came with tons of colors, useful for experimenting.

This set of flash gels gives me the opportunity to color my subjects in nearly any way I wish. I am using this primarily with my SB900. But be warned that increasing intensity of your flash with darker gels may distort or melt your gel. Although you will have to creatively attach these to your flash with tape, rubber bands, etc..., the fun you will have will be worth it. Attach your unused gels to a large book ring for easy removal and storage and you will be off and running!!

Someone had recommended this to use as a flash gel. For [$][...]you get 100's of gels compared to paying $20 and getting maybe 50. Such a great deal. Just take one of the gels and tape to your flash; and you can put a splash of color to a background or warm a scene up with a orange-yellow gel. The possibilities are endless. Great value for less money.
