I just received this player and I'm impressed.It seems to get mixed reviews but always seems tobe 80% positive so I was a bit worried about it.It really deserves 4.5 stars but I'll give it 5.It lives up to the sales talk.Pros -Great sound quality, far better than my old one.I haven't tried the supplied earbuds.It's loud enough to damage your hearing and the EQis actually usefull.Solid construction and looks cool, even my Ipodmates reluctantly agree with this.Currently I have it working with Win2K, drag and drop, every review I read said this didn't work.Long live drag and drop. Drag and drop in XP seemsfine as well. Haven't tried MTP, probably never will.Software good and quite user friendly even thoughthe maunal keeps some operations a secret.FM radio is fine and the recording function is good. It makes 24K waves, ie max frequency 12Khz,but since FM is limited to 15khz this is acceptable and wouldn't be an issue with most users, so it's usefull, not just sales talk.I wish it had the choice of 16k or 32k samplefrequency, want want want.Voice is a 16khz wave, with is heaps for voicerecording. No buzz or whirring noise that manyreviews complain of. Photos are fine but you need to rotate the unitfor portrait or landscape but you could fix thisbefore loading the shots with an image editor. And the battery can be replaced, it's not a digusting throw away product. I was interested in the Sansa View, but no replaceable battery so NO SALE!Cons - that don't really matter.Buttons a tad small but most of the action is withthe dial and the big centre button.The micro SD expansion card is limited to 2GB butmaybe this newest software upgrades this.The High/Low volume setting does nothing.The blue leds on the dial are a bit bright at night but it actually makes quite a good torch !Maybe I'm lucky or the lastest software fixes thebugs sometimes reported, but it just works andworks well.[...]

I bought the Sansa e280 because, although I own a Macbook, I think iPods' prices are too high for their real value.
When I first got it, I thought it was wonderful: sleek, stylish and well built.

I use it mainly with a FM transmitter in my car on commute and weekends.
But, in the course of a month, I have had the opportunity to dislike the following:
- first, the player is too slow. It takes about two seconds for it to respond to any button push. This was a total turnoff for me since, well, that's just not what you expect of any electronic device. Imagine you dialing on your cell and all the numbers taking a couple of seconds to appear on the screen. It is pretty much like that;
- then, the buttons. The whell looks good but it is not as "agile" as ir should. Owners of the e280, when you have a chance, just try the wheel on the Sansa Fuze and you'll see what I mean. The other thing about them is that the 4 ones around the wheel are too small and tricky to push. Specially the ones on the left and the bottom (I'm right-handed). I find myself using my thumb nail instead of the tip all the time;
- As people have previously mentioned here, the whole folders system just doesn't work. The best (I would say ONLY) option is really just to drag and drop all the tracks into the main folder, so that you guarantee all of them will play;
- The players freezes too often;
- And last, but not least, the slot on the bottom (sorry, don't know the right terminology for that) fits iPod accessories, although they are not compatible. Not only not compatible, they will also damage your e280. I didn't know that, thought I would try to plug my Sana into an FM transmitter for iPods on a friend's car and ta-da! Now my screen has lost 80% of the original resolution and color (it's mainly just green and pink now) and the battery lost at least 90% of the original life. I have changed batteries but that won't do any good. In fact, the new battery is not working at all.

    Comments about SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB Portable Digital Music MP3 Player:

    I bought a SanDisk Sansa e280v2 on September 20, 2008. At the time, i didn't know if it was just an e280, an e280r (Rhapsody version) or e280v2. Well, the improvements from the e280 to the e280v2 were minimal but well received. The scroll wheel had more of a smooth feel (not mechanical like the e280). The battery life is great. It doesn't take that long to load the songs in to its memory. I haven't used the microSD slot (with 8GB of space, you might not need to). The screen is pretty small but it would help pass the time on the bus, train, etc. on your way to work. I didn't have to switch USB modes on this guy either; the e280v2 will auto detect and work accordingly. IF you have Windows Media Player open, it will sync and update. IF you want to drag and drop; you just do it. No selecting the USB setting. I just hope that I will be able to get a battery for it in a year or two; I don't know if the guts for this and the new Sansas are the same. What a shame if they are not. Anyway, a great mp3 player for a great price.

      This makes my second Sansa e280. One was the old stand-by V1 and the new one is the new V2. Would had perfered two of the V1's. The only support for that V2 is the Sansa forum where we solve our own problems.

      Comments about SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB Portable Digital Music MP3 Player:

      I firmly believe this is where we're going with "stereos". I've been an AV fan all my life, subscribing to audiophile mags for years, and while they advocate much more of a "purist" approach, I want an easily indexed compact player. My 300-CD changer was mothballed with the advent of MP3, and supplanted by a laptop. The laptop's been, for the most part, supplanted by my Sansa e280. Over the years I've accumulated about 1200 of what I call my "A-hits" and "B-hits" compilations. This thing's 8GB handles the entire collection, indexed with MP3 tags for album, title, and artist, and with 30% of the drive to spare. My audiophile friends laugh at my tiny music drive hooked up to a multi-watt, multi-channel system, but it WORKS!I bought my first Sansa e280 about a year ago. This, my second, runs the office music system 24/7. The newer version has a convenient "delete" option to remove a song so I can quickly delete the occasional duplicate. The only downside is that, if I turn the e280 off while it's attached to a sound system and an AC adapter, the e280 will send a constant "buzz" through the headphone outlet to the amp. This only happens with the new e280; the old one is fine. If Sansamp or some other genius ever figures out to include a simple remote with this thing, they'll have a runaway success on their hands.[@]

        Comments about SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB Portable Digital Music MP3 Player:

        Looked for a player with good sound, lots of memory plus expansion slot AND a user replaceable battery. Even tho this isn't this years' model, it still fit our needs the best. And it is a reasonable price. Sounds great with buds or the JBL little travel speakers! Easy to sync w/ WMP 11. Don't care about pics,video,recording, or radio, which this player also has. Just happy to have our music!

                I have had the e280 long enough to load some audio and video files. It was fairly simple to load and the output is very good. Amazing - you can get the full KJV Audio Bible on one tiny 2GB Micro SD chip and have some memory space left over.

                  Comments about SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB Portable Digital Music MP3 Player:

                  I love inspirational audiobooks, meditation CDs, and binaural beat CDs that enable one to change brain waves and go into higher concentration, or sleepy states when needed. I listen perhaps 80% of the time to voice/meditation tracks and only 20% to music. I also use mp3 players for listening to online spoken-word podcasts which I download, listen to and then delete.

                  I bought the Sansa e280 because I already have a Sansa Clip 2GB that is very lightweight and convenient and works well, but which doesn't have the capacity for all of the longterm materials I want to keep available. So I have placed permanent content meditations and books on the e280 now and use the Clip for podcasts and more temporary things to listen to that I change around.

                  I like the plastic ring for navigation and quick volume changes, but the buttons are a little harder to press on the Sansa e280. Overall, however, I really like this mp3 player. It's solidly built and big enough so the screen size is easy to read, but small enough for easy portability.

                  I really like all the Sansa products for the ease of using Windows Explorer and file folders rather than requiring software like iTunes. I also appreciate that microSD card slot, which I certainly will be taking advantage of as the capacity starts to fill.

                  Another thing that attracted me was the self-replaceable battery. Rechargeable batteries ultimately fail after repeated use and I like the ability to just replace the battery someday rather than the whole unit, which seems less wasteful to me.

                  I found the price reasonable and the player a good value.

                      Comments about SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB Portable Digital Music MP3 Player:

                      Very compact yet rugged. First the things I didn't like. There was no disk with software in the box. Had to download all apps and even the users manual. Not a big deal, but the Sansa Media Converter (required to upload pics and video) failed downloading 4 or 5 times. Very annoying. The only other bad thing is I have a bit of trouble getting the player to update folder structures after I rearrange artists or try to group them.
                      As for the good, its a very good deal compared to other choices and so far have had no serious problems.

                          Comments about SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB Portable Digital Music MP3 Player:

                          I listen to my player almost everyday at work when I'm in my laboratory. I dock it to play it thru speakers instead of headphones, plus the docking station charges the battery.

                          As for headphones, I have a fairly expensive pair of Sony headphones, and the sound is great.

                          I can't live without music, so that means I can't live without my Sansa mp3 players.

                            We really like the Sansa. We use it with Rhapsody and find it super easy to add songs from that service. The wheel can be tricky, but is mastered quickly.

                            Easy to use interface, and has a nice wheel. Firmware could be a little better in the sense that when they upgraded it to use other languages (which was great), they seemed to remove file sorting by file name and not meta information name.

                            Occasionally freezes, but not too often. Only pain is you have to remove the battery in the back (unscrew the cover) to unfreeze it.

                                I needed more space - this was it for me instead of more expensive options. All the songs I want are now there.

                                The interface is easy to use, and the options to shuffle, play by artist or album is great.

                                  I researched and couldn't find a good reason not to try this for my wife. Very rugged and well built. Software is okay, I don't really like the way some of the Directory structure is ported over when copied but it is manageable. I would recommend it to friends anyday.
