The Cokin Creative Filter System consists of a rectangular plastic filter holder with four slots (one for Cokin rotating filters and three for rectangular ones), a variety of optional adapter rings which click into place and rotate, and many optical resin filters.
There are two Cokin sizes, "A" & "P". The "A" series is adequate for 35mm cameras and camcorders and fits filter sizes from 36-62mm. The "P" series covers diameters from 48-82mm and is generally preferred for everything, particularly wide angle lenses. Over 100 filters and a wide range of accessories are available for each system, i.e. modular lens hoods, lens caps, and storage boxes.

Having looked at images and read articles about using graduated neutral density filters, I decided to add this creative possibility to my kit. I found that Cokin is about the only filter holder producer, but the Anonymous review from Salt Lake City gave me pause with the Vignetteing issue comment. So I called B&H’s sales department to discuss with them. They directed me to Cokin’s Wide Angle Filter Holder. I went ahead and ordered the regular holder with 77mm adapter ring and the Wide Angle Filter Holder as well. Both work well and I’m glad to have the flexibility of adding a variety of filters.
There is one Con when using the kit with ND Filters: the setup is somewhat cumbersome to use and requires adjustment as the light changes. This may also work as a Pro, since you’re forced to slow down and study composition in greater detail.

I bought this filter holder after buying a LEE GND filter to use on my Canon 5D. I have a 24-105 mm lens and with this filter holder I am not able to shoot at 24 mm without seeing the filter holder edges in the viewfinder. I even try to position the holder precisely hoping to be able to acheive a 24 mm shot without seeing the filter holder, but I have not been successful. I am giving up on this product and dishing out the extra bucks to buy the Z-Pro filter holder. In addition, the filter holder does not hold onto the adapter ring very well, resulting in me having to force off the the holder from the adapter ring. If you plan on shooting at wide angles, this holder is not an ideal choice. I would spend the money and buy the Z-pro. If you shoot at focal lengths above 24 mm this holder gets the job done. It's easy to use and for [$], it's built fairly strong.

Comments about Cokin "P" Series - Filter Holder, 77mm Adapter Ring and 28 Page Pamphlet:
I'm in the process of converting over all of my my screw-in filters to Singh-Ray filters and the Cokin P series holder. The Cokin P series holder fits easily over the lens, and changing filters is a snap. The holder is very secure, and it is wide enough to prevent the vignetting that I frequently encountered with my screw-in filters. I wish I had switched to the Cokin P series a long time ago!

Great for landscapes, easy to use, easy to control up and down(horizon line in the frame)or turn it to the right or left(slopes or hills)... Make sure you buy the right holder for your lenses, this one will produce vignetting below 14mm on an 11-18mm Tokina...

Glad I finally purchased the filter holder with adapter ring. Helps to protect the filter(s) and makes it easy to take photographs as well. Don't have to hold the filter in my fingertips plus the holder protects the filter(s) while not in use.

I bought it as an replacement for the 77mm Adapter ring that goes with it. I had lost the ring and could not find such ring separately.

[...] The adapter ring and holder screwed on easily, i.e. the fit was very good. The holder is light plastic material yet it seems and feels pretty saturdy. For the price I cannot complain--it does what it is designed to do. I used a Singh Ray 3 stop hard ND filter with it and it fit fairly easily into the gooves. The product is simple but it works. My major concern was if the threading on the adapter would mesh with the lens. It did. With the Cokin holder and the ND filter, my first photos of a sea and sky scape were dazzling--w/out the filter the sky was washed out.

I use this holder with my Canon 17-40mm f/4.0L and Canon Xsi. As the crop factor on this body is 1.6x, my widest angle is 27.2mm which keeps the holder completely out of site.
PROS: The holder is very easy to attach to the lens and rotates smoothly when fixed upon it. Product is adequately durable relative to price.
CONS: Not suitable for shooting below 20mm on a full-frame camera. Holder is made out of plastic.

Excellent value. Feels like plastic but does the job.
Can't really expect too much build quality given the price paid.

Bought 2 of these. My second one at B&H and the first one at a local store. got the second one due to spining issues with a sproket ring polerizer. The polerizer was very difficult to spin. The second had same issues. I finally had to send the holders and filter to the high end polerizer manufacture and they asked if they could keep my holder and they sent me one they had in stock that worked great. They said it looked as cokin had changed the holders specs and the slot was tighter than previous versions. They are going to take this with cokin. Other than this problem the holder works great.

I used Coking ring and filter holder with Hitech filters for my landscape photography. It was very easy to set up and get going, and I got many mountain shots with wonderful skies.
The bottom line is, this is a fine combination to enhance dynamic range of your images without resorting to HDR post-processing. With Coking ring and Hitech filters, you will get great JPEGs right out of your camera.
I would recommend using a sturdy tripod for precise results.

Handy little holder. Does its job excellently and lets you develop a broad lineup of filters for all your lenses.
Lots of reviews on here knock the P series for vignetting on wide angle lenses - this is true but there is a simple solution. Take a dremel or a hacksaw and remove the last two slots and it works perfectly for wide angle lenses. You only have 1 filter slot left in the holder, but it's enough for a GND or polarizer, which is all you'd probably need for wide angle. Or wait for the "wide angle" version which is never in stock. Same thing.
Go ahead and buy the holder/adapter ring kits because it's only a little more than the adapter ring alone and you get an extra holder to mod to your needs.

I got this holder to use with graduated ND filters and a Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle lens. Since the wide-angle version of this holder wasn't available I purchased this one and trimmed off the outer two slots with my table saw[@]With the holder trimmed I can use one square filter and a round filter such as a polarizer at 10mm without any vignetting. With only the outer slot trimmed off, the holder won't show on this lens at 10mm if the holder is aligned square to the frame.

A good quality filter holder especially for the price, lots of p-series filters out there to choose from. I use the holder for landscape photography to hold graduated filters, also for portraits to hold a diffuser. The 77mm ring adapter fits my Canon 24-70L lens perfectly.
