The Leica Handgrip M8 replaces the standard base plate and attaches to the base of the camera. It adds a convenient handgrip to the right side of the M8 camera.
It is especially ergonomic when using the high-speed lenses of the M system. It is more comfortable to hold, and makes it easier for the photographer to hold the camera still even for long shooting sessions.

The handgrip for the M8 makes it easier to hold and handle the camera. I have a similar grip on my M6 for the same reason. It is easier to hold the camera by my side with the grip, instead of pinching the camera body. The grip also allows for better stability when shooting with a flash on top of the camera.
