Live 6 from Ableton is music production software that allows one to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise and edit musical ideas in a seamless audio/MIDI environment. The software integrates loop-based and linear production methods, includes unique virtual instruments and effects and presents them together in a single interface for unparalleled creative freedom.
Features specific to Live 6 include multi-processor and multi-core support on both the Mac and PC and QuickTime movie import. While the previous version of Live provided "freeze" tracks to conserve CPU resources, the current version allows these tracks to be edited while frozen. This includes automation, cut, copy, paste, duplicate and trim.
The Essential Instrument Collection is a collection of high-fidelity sampled instruments including brass orchestral strings, woodwinds and plucked instruments. Also included are B3 organs, electric keyboards, electric guitars and a grand piano. An instrument rack allows for extensive manipulation of the sounds such as layering, applying effects and programming keyboard splits. A "flatten" feature automatically converts virtual instruments into audio files.
Automatic "Adaptive Mapping" takes the work out of manually assigning the controls on many popular MIDI controllers. New virtual effects have been added, further extending the sonic possibilities offered within Live 6. Multi-track warping is supported along with "hot-swapping" that lets the user swap audio files, whether in a clip or sampler.
All users who buy and unlock their Live 6 or Live 6 upgrade between October 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008 are eligible for a free download upgrade to Ableton Live 7, plus special upgrade offers on Ableton Suite.
