Compact and easy to carry in a computer bag. As fast as firewire card readers the perfect accessory for a MacBook Pro or any notebook/laptop that has a 3/4 port. I wish it had a protective case that could prevent it from becoming banged around or mangled in a stuffed computer bag, but nothing is perfect. In fact the Delkin ExpressCard 34 may prove to be more durable than I think.

I only give it 3 stars because when it's working properly, it does what it's supposed to do, and does it FAST! The problem is that it is the only thing that has created a system level kernal panic crash of my MacBook Pro in the last 2 years. There is a very specific sequence you have to use when using this card. I have not used it a lot yet, but it seems that you have to put the expresscard in the computer w/o the CF card in it. Then insert the CF card in the reader, being careful not to eject the reader from the slot while doing this. If you have the card in the reader before putting the reader in the computer, it will not work. I pulled the card out and re-inserted it and it crashed my computer. NOT COOL! It did not come with any driver installers or make any suggestions to do so. I'm going to continue to look online to see if there are any.

As of right now, I have to say go with a FW or USB reader until the bugs are worked out. It may simply be a driver issue. I don't know enough about these things to be sure.

PS. Mine does not look like the one in the pic. Instead of the white piece on the end, it's black.

Comments about Delkin Devices ExpressCard 34 - CompactFlash Card Adapter:

My computer runs the 64 bit Windows 7.
This card reader is fast, when it is working. In order to reliably read the card, the computer needs to be started with the card and reader in place. It is a minor inconvenience. I have not attempted to swap cards as I have not had an instance where I used multiple cards since purchase.

Comments about Delkin Devices ExpressCard 34 - CompactFlash Card Adapter:

I use the Delkin ExpressCard 34 to to quickly and efficiently download high volumes of large Raw image files from my camera's CF memory card to my laptop. The ExpressCard 34 is much faster and much more convenient than the old USB reader I used to use.

The ExpressCard is small and easy to tuck into my backpack or shirt pocket. I can leave the adapter installed in my computer and it's ready to go by just inserting the CF card and downloading the files.

The Delkin ExpressCard 34 has increased my workflow efficiency.

Comments about Delkin Devices ExpressCard 34 - CompactFlash Card Adapter:

I'd love to offer a review of how this unit works. Unfortunately it kept crashing my MacBook Pro. And I mean the gray curtain of death: Kernel Panic.

They acknowledge on their support site that the drivers aren't perfectly compatible with Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6) One should only use the reader to copy files to the hard drive and then manipulate or view them from there, but I couldn't even accomplish this. Perhaps a faulty install so I tried twice. Erasing old drivers each time before install. As soon as I insert the reader: Crash.

Worked better on MacBook Pro with Leopard installed.

I like the price, I like the form factor. I just wish they could work out the kinks with the newer OS drivers. Better drivers = more stars.

This looked to be a great match for exporting photo/videos from a CompactFlash card to my MacBook Pro. A few seconds after I plugged the adapter in my MacBook crashes (the gray screen asking me to shut down). After spending an hours or so searching for answers, I ended up on the delkin.com website where I found out that drivers needed to be installed. After installing the drivers (with CompactFlash card inserted) everything seemed to work fine. When I inserted another card the MacBook crashed again. This card reader is not worth trashing a hard drive. I suggest looking for an alternative.

The description says no drivers required, that is not true. You will need to download drivers from delkin[@] for this adapter to work at all. Then it is very unreliable. It has crashes my new MacBook Pro about five times and I am discontinuing use and going back to my USB reader.I'm giving one star rating because the option to choose less isn't available.

I'm going to keep this because aperture still allows importation from it. Bu in snow leopard, after installing the drivers, this just shows up as a typical hard drive, not as a camera card. It does not allow Nikon Transfer to see it to import pictures from the card. Otherwise it works fine for simple transfers or in aperture.

My first Delkin ExpressCard 34 bit the dust after 3 years. I should give it a break, but a pin pulled out at an angle on it.

This one appears to be a newer design. The throat is not as pictured. The picture is of my older one. The new throat is deeper and more robust. Hopefully, this will ensure that the pins are in alignment during insertion and extraction.

I use this in a Sony PC with an express card port. The unit works fine, except it seems a little flimsy. Pushing the unit into the Express card slot feels like the plastic piece that the CF card fits into could easily break. The unit works fine, but just feels less robust than I expected.

It takes a lot to crash a Mac but this thing could do it consistently until I installed drivers from their site. Too bad the device doesn't mention this or come with drivers.

Now with the drivers installed and if you follow the procedure of first inserting the card into the reader and THEN inserting the reader into the Expresscard slot and THEN dragging it to the trash when finished it seems to work.

It shouldn't be so difficult and my Lexar firewire reader is plug and play and almost as fast. I'll continue to use it until it crashes my machine again and the I'm using it as a doorstop.

I have not had the best experience with unreliable Delkin Devices, but this card works so far and speeds up picture downloading.

I use the expresscard 34 to download literally thousands of images, and need to edit immediately. The Delkin delivers. 100 images download in under 30 seconds. Use the port that's made to download your images and free up a USB port. Of course I wish the old PCMIA port was still in laptops, but since they're not, go with the Delkin ExpressCard 34!

The CF card adapter is a quick and convenient way to download cards onto a laptop. The build quality is good and it fits well in my Macbook Pro. Delkin provides drivers for both Mac and that other kind of computer on it's website.

I had an old Lexar CF adapter for the PCMCI slot on my old Mac but it would occasionally send my Mac into fits and I'd get that gray screen of death that tells you you need to hold you power button down and reset your machine when I used it. So I switched to a firewire reader. Well, I got a new Mac and my firewire reader died so I thought I'd give this card a try. Same thing is happening with this one. Every now and again I get the gray screen of death and I hadn't ever had that happen with my new MacBook Pro until I got this card. On top of making my computer crash, once I remove a card I have to resart my machine in order to get it to recognize the reader with a new card in it. AND now I've got a bent pin in the thing and I haven't even been using it for a month. I'm going back to firewire. Don't waste your money on this piece of garbage. I'm ticked I have to give it one star.
