Cons: It is kinda heavy, but at this price it really is great.
If you need something sturdy that will handle abuse, this is for you.

I'd have rated this monopod 5 stars, but it is a full quarter pound heavier than the specs say. By actual weight, the bare monopod is 763 grams (1.68 pounds), without the case.
It is very sturdy, good enough to be a hiking staff when the joint threads are tightened down. If yours wobbles, you just need to tighten things down a bit.

Bought this mainly for field trips and tele work. Very sturdy. Wish there was a quick way of deploying the leg sections with the push of a button.

Comments about Giottos MM 9780 5-Section Monopod:
Attached a quick release assembly by Giottos to it and typically accompanies me with my Nikon F100. All around use when I venture out of the house with a light pack (camera, monopod, and film only). I was pleased with the bag that it comes in as it saved me the trouble from purchasing one additionally. Well constructed and the twist lock is simple and effective.

It's what a monopod should be...easy to use and light and it extends fully. nothing else to add...
For the ~ $100 difference between this and the carbon fiber models, I"ll heft an extra 2 or 3 ounces.

Seems like a robust and solid monopod from usage so far. It is more than tall enough for my 6' 2" height. It is slightly long when folded but for the price I don't think you can go wrong.

Comments about Giottos MM 9780 5-Section Monopod:
I take pictures in variety of place and events. Sometimes it is easier just to have a monopod instead of a tripod, because of the weight and can move from one place to another quickly. Such as taking picture in at a game. My first time using a twist lock and I like it after getting use.

This is a fine monopod that i highly recommend.
The build is excellent especially for the price.
I was unsure of the twistlocks but after getting it and trying it out, i love them.
They are much nicer than the flip locks i have used before.
This model is great for people over 6ft tall that need a longer pod.
it even comes with a case.
I highly recommend this to everyone.
Should give many years of service.

Bought this to use for a shoot in a club. Shooting performers on stage with my Nikon D-700 and 80-200 lens. Ease of use was wonderful. Love the twist for lock and unlock (just like my explorer tripod).Legs slid smoothly and quietly. Size and weight good for portability. I am 5'2"wish I was taller so many times when shooting. This monopod goes higher so I can stand on something if need be.

Comments about Giottos MM 9780 5-Section Monopod:
I took this monopod with me backpacking through the Rocky Mountains and it held up beautifully. The product, although probably not as good in overall quality as some of the more expensive Giottos monopods, turned out to be well worth the price. It will be my main monopod for years to come hopefully.

Comments about Giottos MM 9780 5-Section Monopod:
I bought it because of the rubber foot and was not disappointed. I can shoot with the monopod tilted and it won't slip since, the base of the foot is flexible. There is another brand that makes a similar foot but, at a much higher price. Nonetheless, such a relatively large foot is not for use in grass because, it may not allow ground contact. In fact a spike foot is the right choice in grass, while a small diameter (non spike foot) should be usable. For very fast changes in height a lever is better than a collar. The grip is very comfortable. I use it with a Stroboframe Pro RL (a Pentax 67II and 16 x 22 softbox; yes I only use film, even with my baccalaureate degree in computer repair and installation and my diploma in programming, I rather scan the film). I found it solid, locks securely and the extra height allows for use in steps.

I use this monopod to take sports photos for my sons High School, I am 6'7" and before this monopod I used a regular tri-pod and ended up with a sore back after shooting for a couple hours, now with this monopod I can stand up straight. This monopod also hold my sports rig which is pretty have with out a problem. Also pretty compact when not in use

Excellent monopod! I use it with my HVX200, fairly heavy camcorder, and it works great! I tortue tested it in the mountains on my first video'd archery hunt. The monopod is heavy duty, with strong joints, and is extremely quiet if it gets bounced around. My buddy bought a Monfroto and his sounds like a tin can when hes packing it around. I was very impressed for the price!!

Comments about Giottos MM 9780 5-Section Monopod:
I was amazed at how sturdy and well build this is! Twist lock, solid construction, dual mode tripod screw. Very easy to use, once locked down it stayed put. I even used it as a walking stick for part of my journey. Doesn't include a ballhead, but that wouldn't be expected at this price. You can always add one later.
Clamping force is fine assuming you snug everything up.

Comments about Giottos MM 9780 5-Section Monopod:
I primarily use this with my 70-200 VR lens and it is very stable. The extra height of this monopod is one of its strengths if you are over 6 feet tall. Easily adjustable, I have found the twist lock mechanism to be solid. The lower joints can tend to wobble slightly, but tightening a bit further seems to remedy that.
