The popular Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro Lens has now been improved with closer focusing capabilities - as close as 7.9" (20 cm) - and has a maximum magnification rating of 1:3, ideal for close-up photography. This lens is exclusively designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras. The characteristics of digital SLR cameras were taken into consideration when designing the lens power layout. The advanced lens design corrects various aberrations. This lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras.
This lens is also specially coated to get the best color balance with a digital camera, while also cutting down flare and ghost caused by reflections from the digital image sensor and lens. It has correction for vignetting and superior peripheral brightness is ensured. Ideal as a standard quality zoom lens with added macro capability, this lens provides an equivalent range of approx. 30-85mm when used with a Sigma digital SLR camera (*).
DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is made to match the smaller dimensions used for the image sensor on digital cameras. As a result these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.
Note! (*) Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras.

Comments about 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro Autofocus Lens for Sigma Digital SLR Camera:
This lens is a true EX lens-- it's sharp as a tack. Mine had soft auto-focus and had to be sent to Sigma for calibration (free under supplied 4 year warranty), however that is the fault of Sigma quality control, and is not a defect in the lens itself. I haven't experienced any type of vignetting, chromatic aberration, and even the corners of the image are clear at 18mm. This is a great standard zoom lens, that produces great color.

Comments about 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro Autofocus Lens for Sigma Digital SLR Camera:
This lens is the mainstay for many Sigma camera users, as well as others with APS-sized sensors, who want an effective focal length range that is often the only one you'll need, along with superb optical quality.
Like the other Sigma EX lenses (and especially the macros), this lens measures extraordinarily well (e.g. on Photodo) and delivers in the field.
I use the Canon 24-70 L lens for my 5D, and this one delivers equivalent performance at a fraction of the cost. Unless you spend one week in Antarctica, and the next in the Sahara, this may be the most cost effective lens of its kind you will find.
