The Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro Lens has a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture with macro focusing capability (minimum focusing distance is 7.1" for a reproduction ratio of 1:2.7). It incorporates a floating focus system and uses two aspherical elements for minimized distortion, spherical aberration and astigmatism. The lens front does not rotate during focusing, thus allowing the use of a "perfect hood" and the easy polarizing filters. Optical construction was designed to minimize light falloff (darkening of the image corners) at maximum aperture - a big benefit particularly for digital cameras.

The improved DG lens design for this lens corrects for various aberrations. This macro lens is specially coated to get the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. The lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras.

Note! Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras.

This lens provides an equivalent range of 48mm when used with an Olympus digital SLR camera.
The 9-bladed aperture diaphragm obtains beautiful, circular out of focus characteristics.
Materials used in this lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.

Comments about Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro AF Lens:

A nice, low light standard prime for the Four Thirds mount that the system otherwise lacks for a good price. While more expensive than similar lenses for other systems, this lens has more features such as a distance scale and very close-up focusing, which is unique in a standard prime.

Downsides are how heavy this lens can be, and the unusual AF/MF toggle. It's larger than even the full frame 50mm f/1.4. But it's sharp from f/2.2 onward and usable wide open. AF is passable indoors but loud. Manual focus is nice but has a short throw.

In short, you get a little bit more than you paid for.

Comments about Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro AF Lens:

This Sigma 24mm is a very sharp lens. The built quality is heavy like the older German lenses. I love the stiff plastic lens hood. It is so easy to put it on and take it off from the lens.

The lens is short and focuses pretty close. It balances well on my heavier E330. I love how light my E500 is but the heavier E330's nice Live View takes the pains away!

I accepted the slow responses from all the E system lenses that I have without complaints. However, after I have used the Canon 50D and T2i, I must say that the slow lens focusing responses must be of the older E cameras I have. Yes, my 50mm F2 Zuiko has the same slow focus response to the same light conditions I tested them on also.

I take most of the pictures with a tripod. So, for certain not so fast picture taking, this lens serves me well. To me, lens with natural looking colors and excellent sharpness are the two most important factors I look in a lens.

I enjoy using this lens whenever I can and I hope my opinions will help you somewhat in deciding on the purchase.

Excellent and inexpensive!

Comments about Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro AF Lens:

Very nice lens for the money. The AF motor is a bit odd onit compared to the Zuikos, but when you get used to it, Ifound it much better. It takes 77mm filters, so the costcan be a bit high for those. Pros: Fast, sharp, inexpensive

Expertise: Professional - I sell my work

Problems Encountered: Cons: Large for it's focal length, somewhat heavy, af motorkind of slow in low light.
