The Custom Bracket CB Mini-RC is a horizontal camera and flash platform bracket. It has a wide cork-padded camera platform to support a digital, 35mm film, or medium format camera. The 1/4"-20 camera screw can be adjusted for cameras of different thickness. Featuring the same compact setup as the CB Mini, the CB Mini-RC allows full accessibility to the vertical shutter release on your camera. It is designed for Canon and Nikon camera / flash combinations.
Since this type of bracket is usually used with either a handle mount flash or shoe mount flash attached to an off-camera cord, this bracket comes with a 1/4"-20 flash screw.

Great for eliminating the sideways shadows on portrait-oriented photographs of people by placing the flash over the axis of the lens.
Using this bracket takes the flash off your camera, meaning that in press pit/media scrum situations you reduce the risk of either firing the flash into the back of someone's head or ramming your flash into the back of someone's head. And the person behind you will thank you because your flash won't be in their shot.
Well built with adjustable locking plate that caters for different off camera cord hot shoes.
Only slightly annoying point is that the screw that holds the off camera cord hotshoe in place requires a screwdriver - it would be great if it was a d-ring like it is on the screw that fastens the bracket to the camera body itself.

I am a photographer on the go and so I bought it on the sole premise that I can stow it in my backpack eliminating the bulk and I can pull it out with ease. I wanted a higher quality "straight" bracket even if realizing that the quality of imaging remains the same, have I used other straight brackets. The quality of workmanship, simplicity in design, and convenience of storage are the best part of it. The problem associated with all straight brackets is its inconsistency with lighting on subject matters mostly in environments with little light. Because the flash is on the right side, horizontal subjects are prone to uneven lighting and cast shadows. Vertical subjects are prone to "halo" lighting, where the subject "glows" as the background surrounding it dissipates into the darkness.

Comments about Custom Brackets CB Mini-RC Camera & Flash Bracket:
I use this with a Canon 5Dii; L lenses and 580exii flash. The bracket is a well made piece of equipment. Both the camera and flash fit firmly (using Canon off camera extension), It provides a nice balance (as opposed to having the flash mounted on the camera). It provides a high degree of confidence that both are not in danger of moving or falling off. Some reviews complained that one or both of the screws come lose. I haven't experienced any problems in that area. I still have, and use, the Canon strap to grip the camera. The bracket provides enough room for the strap attached on the right side (also I have the extra battery grip on the camera).
As the system is set up the flash is not on the lens axis. It is better than shoe mounted on the camera, but I wish it was more in line with the axis of the lens. In the horizontal format the flash is a little up and to the right; in the vertical position it is up and a little to the left. If however, the bracket was a little lower where the flash sits, it would be on the lens axis. This is a minor problem, but for me the ease of handling compensates for this.
Another minor point is that the flash is too close to the camera body, which makes it a little difficult to make adjustments to the flash. Part of this problem is inherent with the flash itself (not really designed for big fingers).
Because of not placing the flash on the lens axis, and being a little too close to the camera body I deducted one star.
The bottom line is that this is a well-made bracket; a piece of professional equipment. It's balanced and feels good to hold. After using it a day or two, I took it off and placed the flash on the hot shoe. I had to put the bracket back on because after using it, I really missed not having the bracket on. Even if I took the flash and off- camera cable off for some shots I would leave the bracket on. It's not in the way, and light enough to keep on without noticing a difference.
If you absolutely MUST have the flash directly above the lens axis, that means you'll probably pay more for a larger bracket that is not as comfortable to handle.
After using several cameras ( 2 1/4 and 35mm ) on several well made brackets, I prefer the CB mini-bracket. When I saw this bracket in the B+H catalogue, I was shocked. It was such a pure simple and easy solution, and nobody thought of it before this company. No twist, turn or flip and much less weight. And, as an added plus, very inexpensive (it's not just a hunk of aluminum, it's a machined piece of equipment). I could design a better bracket that would overcome my annoyances with this bracket. I could then turn it over to people who do machining and have it made, but the cost would about double the cost of this bracket, and it would take several weeks to get it. All in all, the CB mini bracket is the best compromise. I'm very happy with it, and I would buy it again. Hope this helps in your decision.

I love the solid piece and the metal construction. Can easily store without a problem! Minus 1 star because you have to use a screwdriver or coin to screw in the hot shoe mount for the flash. Other than that, it's a great product!

I've seen such a difference in my pictures just by using this. I love the terry richardson look and this does help get the same feel and look. Just remember to screw the flash on tight it finds a way at times for me to loosen so I keep a penny on me to tighten it. But love love love this product.

I got this bracket mainly as a mounting solution for a Pocket Wizard and a Canon 40D w/grip (had to purchase a separate cold shoe to mount the PW). It provides a more compact profile and platform, and frees up the camera hot shoe. I've also used it mounting a 430EX II, outdoors as fill, but it lends itself to the probability of more red eye.

Work's best when shooting verticle images. Does make a small shadow when shooting horizontal.
For those full length and waist up red carpet shots, this can't be beaten. Better off leaving your flash on your camera's hot shoe mount for the horizontals, though. Very lightweight and sturdy. No need for those extra non slip parts. Remember, you do need a sync cord for your flash to fire when attached to this bracket. Two thumbs up from me.

I wanted to get my flash off the camera. So I bought a cord knowing I'd need a bracket at some point. After much research on matter I found some good reviews on this bracket. It's a minimalist set up which is what I wanted. It also balances out the rig nicely as your hand is between the flash and the camera (think of balancing a pencil on the finger.)
I added a cold shoe mount to the bracket so I could easily remove the flash for hand held shots.
Love the size, shape, and build quality.
Wished it came with a quick release flash mount option like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=mount&N=4293918168+4253671411.

Bracket looks and feels good - gives the camera and flash a nice balance. Doesn't have the old fashion look (which I associate with the typical flash brackets - hate them). I attached the spider screw directly to this bracket and now can use it with my holster - not a perfect fit but darn good. I currently use it with the Pearstone 3' TTL off camera cord - plan on using it with my radio poppers and st-e2 commander.
Haven't used it with my 16-35 mm - will try when it comes back.

Comments about Custom Brackets CB Mini-RC Camera & Flash Bracket:
Used a similar product from DEMB, which worked fine, but it required physically turning the bracket from portrait to landscape when changing angles to shoot. With this bracket, the flash stays fixed and when you move the camera from horizontal to vertical, the flash head stays aligned with the lens. I was a little afraid of getting red-eye when shooting horizontal because it places the flash head at lens level, but that hasn't happened. Makes for much quicker transitions from horizontal to vertical when shooting chaos.
