The Original ColorChecker Card from Xrite is a checkerboard array of 24 scientifically prepared colored squares in a wide range of colors. Many of these squares represent natural objects of special interest, such as human skin, foliage and blue sky. These squares are not only the same color as their counterparts, but also reflect light the same way in all parts of the visible spectrum. Because of this unique feature, the squares will match the colors of natural objects under any illumination and with any color reproduction process.
The ColorChecker provides a totally non-subjective standard of comparison to help determine the true color balance of any color rendition system, and it provides the needed standard for comparing, measuring and analyzing differences in color reproduction in various processes, thereby avoiding costly mistakes.

The chart is made of durable plastic. The colors are durable and are matt finished so that they do not easily flare or glare when you you are shooting a test picture.
Put the color checker in the picture you are shooting for a test shot and you have a perfect raw or jpeg, color and B+W reference. The #2 grey step is perfect for white balancing your pictures in photoshop raw.
18 color steps and 6 B+W density steps. Worth every penny.

I have an Apple Cinema Display that I calibrate every few weeks with X-Rite EyeOne Display 2. With that and the ColorChecker, white balancing comes out a little cool. Don't know where in the system the breakdown could be, it's all X-Rite. Still, useful to have I guess.

Comments about X-Rite Original ColorChecker Card:
This is perhaps the simplest and best way to ensure that your colors are correct and that they print at they should.
Just include the the card in one shot in a series and it becomes the color standard for them all.
Once in Photoshop or some other Post Processing software, click on a color square and all of your colors are suddenly corrected. This process is simplified, but essentially correct.
Very useful for both indoor and outdoor shooting as well as for creating camera profiles and much more, but be careful to keep it safe from rain and do not get oils from fingers on it or the colors will change and quality will be reduced.
I highly reccomend it.

Comments about X-Rite Original ColorChecker Card:
The ColorChecker arrived on time. However, there was a bubble on one of the color patches. I expected better quality control. For now, I rolled my finger over the bulge and the patch stuck back in place. Hope it stays this way!

I love the size of the original CCC! I was previously using a CC Passport -- but sadly, lost it. The original is terrific. I use it in all my shoots!

Matching footage from different sources is a real pain. Having a chart with this many references makes matching the footage much easier. To use this chart properly either you or your editor need to be able to color correct in post.

Comments about X-Rite Original ColorChecker Card:
Large, each square about 1 inch on a side. Surface looks delicate and don't touch so I made reinforcing back and front sheet out of matte board to protect it in its supplied thin cardboard sleeve. Great for studio work, not sure about field work.
Advanced color control over just a grey card.

Comments about X-Rite Original ColorChecker Card:
This color checker card does as it promisises. As far as the color part it is very well made and has helped me with color balancing my photos. However, the colors are basically placed on top of a cardboard. The cardboard seems to be sturdy but you have to be carefull if you plan to take it on photo shoots. There is also a suggestion by the maker to avoid touching the colors and to keep them away from moisture or high humidity. I would like the same high quality color boxes built on something more sturdy. I still recommend this product if the above mentioned is not an issue for you.

Comments about X-Rite Original ColorChecker Card:
I use the product primarily to see how my digital SLR records color, then secondarily as a tool to tweak my monitor's color, which is sometimes unsatisfactory after hardware and software calibration.
It works as claimed in its description. The only con is its price, and I wish it came with a wallet sturdier than a cardboard sleeve.
