Comments about X-Rite ColorChecker Gray Scale Card:
This ColorChecker card is great. The studio I work at has two of the 24-patch cards, but it can be difficult to get a good spot-meter reading from the small white, grey, and black patches. With this card, you can stay close to the camera's POV and easily take spot-meter readings. The main advantage of this card over standard grey cards is that the lab-calibreated white and black pallets give you great confidence in getting the proper dynamic range of a composition. This is especially important if you are using a finicky capture system like chrome film, which we shoot quite a bit of at my studio. It works rather well for general color correction, too.The only problem I have with this product--this applies to the 24-patch version as well--is that it bows and you can never get rid of it. You would figure that a [$] piece of planar plastic could be engineered to stay flat, but I guess that bit is too much to ask for. Despite this one irritation, I highly recommend this product. Use it with a spot-meter and you will make better, more consistent photos. Good shooting!

Comments about X-Rite ColorChecker Gray Scale Card:
I take this card with me everywhere, simply place card where it will recieve the exact amount and type of light that your intended subject will. I usually will change the angle of the card just slightly to get say three examples for each room, real estate photography, and then in camera raw 6, I take a white balance of the gray section (little dropper icon) and 99% of the time the x-rite card nails it perfectly. Gets the job done, remember the key is positioning the card correctly to get the right white balnce, takes a little practice.
