The Back-UPS HS 500VA 120V from APC provides power protection and battery backup for home computer systems. The power strip provides surge protection and battery backup for all four connected devices. It also features protection for RJ-11 phone, RJ-45 networking and coaxial TV cables. It yields an average output power capacity of 500 VAC at 300 watts and the battery lasts up to 16.3 minutes at half-load capacity. APC offers guaranteed protection from surges and spikes with their lifetime $100,000 Equipment Protection Policy. - Battery Backup
- The user-replaceable battery provides 16.3 minutes of backup at half-load and 4.4 minutes of backup at full-load. This gives you enough time to safely shut down your computer in the event of a power outage.

- Software is included to manage the Back-UPS over a network connection. This allows you to remotely monitor the status of your UPS.
- Data Line Protection
- The surge protector features RJ-11, RJ-45 and coaxial cable surge protection connection that allows you to protect data connections from power surges. This helps to preserve the life of your network devices and further protect your computer from surges.
- Spaced Outlets
- The surge protector features 2 spaced outlets that are designed to accommodate devices with large "power brick" AC adapters. This lets you power and protect these devices without sacrificing another plug due to their large size.
- Audible Alarms

I have been using these units for years in several network applications. Not a single one has failed, and the ability to log in remotely and electrically reset devices through the IP controllable power outlets has been very useful.
At home I use this with a DSL modem, 24-port switch, 8-port switch, 2 wireless access point, and a fire wall. And the run time is about 1 hour according to the web interface.
It also has versatile mounting wall mountable, floor standing and 2U shelf mounting.
This is great for network equipment. Not recommended for a computer. does not have shutdown software.
