The Mbox 2 Mini from Digidesign is a highly compact, USB digital audio interface that allows users to access Pro Tools LE software and over fifty related plug-ins, instruments and applications.
The unit is perfect for both beginners who wish to get into Pro Tools software and gain compatibility with the software standard, and for professionals who wish to edit on the road without taking a large interface with them.
Like its siblings, Mbox 2 and Mbox 2 Pro, Mbox 2 Mini delivers superior sound quality and includes plenty of powerful creation tools for composing, recording and mixing music and audio.
Systems purchased on or after October 3rd 2008 and all current purchasers are eligible to receive a free upgrade to Pro Tools LE 8 when it becomes available.

- USB interface with 24-bit/48kHz resolution in compact, rugged metal enclosure for maximum portability and durability

- One XLR analog input for connecting a microphone with switchable 48V phantom power

- Support for streaming ReWire applications into Pro Tools

Well, as long as the dog isn't barking or nobody is mowing the lawn while you're trying to record. But, that's beside the point. The Mbox 2 Mini is the most affordable way to get into Pro Tools, the industry standard for recording. The interface is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done and is portable for recording anywhere.

There's not a lot to it, but it works well and gets the job done. I purchased this so that I could do overdubs and then mix the session (started at a recording studio) at home. And it does it just fine. Sounds good.

The mini is a great way to get into the world of Pro Tools production. It is way less expensive than some other options and is an ideal entry platform to learn the system. It could have some other bells and whistles, but I have plenty to work on right now. It connects my synth to the computer and studio monitors, and allows me to use the quarter inch jack without midi. And best of all, it comes with the Pro-Tools software.
