Comments about Profoto AcuteB 600R Battery-Powered Generator Flash Pack:
After 3 years, it still shoots great- I am used to its nuances and faults.I never got near 160 full power shots, more like 100 max.The test button jams in its fitting in the case and I am still mildly confused by how many clicks is a full stop change in output. I don't know why profoto didn't just put 1-10 rather than the really weird 3 position selector switch plus a dial. [*]The light is beautiful, the gear is profoto and all the accessories work on these little heads. Get the head/pack when they come up on specials and save the cost of the head. My D4 heads work fine with these packs and I never use the modeling lights (can you tell?). I bought 2- an R and a basic and would do so again as it's easy to use a wizard if the slave function is a problem on the non R unit. But in a jam, remember you can always use your on camera flash set at -2 or more to fire the slaved units. When you forget a wizard, this is a good fix and the unit's slave detector is really sensitive- you may use up all the battery if cars are flying by reflecting flashes of sunlight and triggering the slaves. This happens significantly enough to drain a battery.Superior for an architectural shooters' kit even where there's plugs as you can just freely place a little light anywhere and it gets hidden easily.I have sent one back as the battery to pack connection is weird an it still is. I have to really slam the battery in to make it work right and sometimes, all 3 status lights come on at the same time. To rectify, just push in the on pack flash switch and fire the unit. That has always fixed whatever that problem is for me.Summary- for the money it ought to work smoother and the dial feature ought to be more intuitive- try yelling across a set to an aide and tell them to re-adjust the pack. Spin or push push or spin? Push and spin? I think $600+ for a motorcycle battery is way too steep- if the battery is more specialized, it still ought to be more reasonable. But for its weight, ease of transport, set up and the quality of light it makes, it's a real winner.Buy 2!

Comments about Profoto AcuteB 600R Battery-Powered Generator Flash Pack:
I bought this unit to use outdoors with the Acute ring, and its a great match.
On the lowest power setting I can get hundreds of pops and recycle time is instant. One the highest setting it can make daytime look like night.
The real downside of this unit is that it only accepts a single head. Meaning you will need more than one if you are serious about lighting on location.

Comments about Profoto AcuteB 600R Battery-Powered Generator Flash Pack:
I started off with some Elnchrom Rangers, and while they are a great system, the packs were just a little heavy to throw in a backpack and walk around with. Looking for an alternative, the AcuteB came up. I made the switch and haven't had a single disappointment since.
The pack is small, light, and yet still has enough power for most situations. Although I purchased it for outdoors use, I have found it works incredibly well inside a studio as it can be easily moved around, and being battery powered, there are less cables to trip over.
After two years of use, the pack hasn't failed once. The power and colour consistency is fantastic for such a small unit. Like all Profoto equipment, the modifiers are incredibly easy to attach to the heads which is also a huge plus. The battery life is quite good for such a little pack, but it constantly used at full power, you will drain the battery after a couple of hundred of shots. Get a spare.
Like everything, the pack is not perfect though. There are two different switches/dials for controlling the power, so it is not quite as straight forward to use as other systems. This has never personally caused me any issues, and I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker, but some people may dislike it.
The final one is that it doesn't have a very good auto dump mode. If you take the unit from a higher power level and drop it, the next flash will still have more power in it than it should. Easily solved by hitting the test button on the transmitter. Once again, just be aware.

This pack is incredibly simple to use, flexible, and very portable. As long as you keep the modeling light off, you can get plenty of power out of the unit.

I mainly use this pack for portraits and action/sports.
This product has its many ups and downs! Firstly, it packs amazing light. The lighting is kind of soft but still strong/bright at the same time. Its amazing! the only problem with it is I was originally looking for more harsh light, but i have grown to love it! The system works well with pocket wizards except for one problem. Sometimes the pack miss fires when you change the power setting. Always press 'TEST' on the pocket wizard whenever you change power! I learnt this the hard way by not freezing the action when the flash didn't fire. But this is easily fixed by just pressing the test button on the pocket wizard unit, upon doing this I have no problem whatsoever. The pack is well worth it, even though I ended up paying way more due to AUS dollar conversion and tax, I would defiantly recommend this pack.

Just got this system and used it the very next day to shoot in a hospital where time and mobility was priority. Right out of the box this system worked with out a hitch. Photographed groups of two and three in medium to small areas mixing flash w/ ambient light. Beautiful light with no battery problems at all. ( I was able to plug in the charger while shooting for about 1 hr. ) I pumped my ISO up to 400 on my Canon 1ds Mark II and shot some areas w/ slow shutter speed on tripod. Most of my F stops were in the 5.6 to 8 range and I never used the max power output of the pack.

i love Profoto gear, this kit is perfect for location shoots where you only need one head. one major advantage for me is being able to use my existing profoto light modifiers, ring flash and abs heads (without modeling light) with this kit. have only used it 4 times and thought battery life was less than 160 full power flashes
