On the heels of the successful SW-612 series, the Horseman SW-617 Camera incorporates many of the winning elements of its predecessors. The SW-612 Pro's lens movement feature and compact size have remained, while the size of the body has not been dramatically increased. The SW-617 gives users the option to create panoramic photographs with an interchangeable 6x17cm or 6x12cm film back. This camera is the first 6x17 panoramic camera to feature a removable back.
The SW-617 has six interchangeable Schneider and Rodenstock lenses to build an optical library from; these lenses span the range from 72mm to 250mm. Horseman sets these lenses in their own precisely-engineered helical focusing mounts, that in turn, are attached to a lens cone appropriate for the lens. Focusing a lens on the SW-617 is aided by an accurate distance and depth-of-field scale on the helicoid, otherwise scale-focusing can be bypassed by substituting the film back with an optional ground glass back (#21466) for the most accurate focus and composition.
As stated earlier, the SW-617 is bestowed with rise/fall movements. This is possible with the use of carefully selected lenses with generous image circles. Any of the six Horseman SW lens units are capable of 17mm of rise and 17mm of fall. Rise/fall movements are extremely useful with work that requires perspective correction like architecture and landscape photography.
This is just the Horseman SW-617 body alone and does not include a film back, lens or any other accessories.
Optional Lenses
The Horseman 90mm f/6.8 Grandagon-N Lens is a Rodenstock 90mm f/6.8 Grandagon-N with a standard Copal #0 shutter, but built into a Horseman-specific helical focusing mount and barrel assembly made to fit upon their SW617 Professional medium format panoramic camera. It provides an extremely wide angle perspective on the 617 Professional that's roughly equivalent to the view of a 22mm lens in 35mm terms. A built-in lens guard helps protect the sensitive optics. For critical work with transparencies, the optional Rodenstock #170002 center filter (B&H code "ROCF67") is highly recommended.
The 90mm f/6.8 Grandagon-N is a highly-corrected 6-element lens design with an f/16-22 recommended working aperture. It can focus down to 3.6' (1.1m) with the 617 Professional camera.
This Horseman Optical Viewfinder is a replacement or an accessory finder for a 90mm lens unit mounted on a Horseman SW-617. This viewfinder provides a clean, bright view that correlates to the perspective of the 90mm lens. It allows for rapid shooting by scale-focusing, without relying upon a ground glass.
This 612 Roll Film Holder for Horseman SW-617 allows for four 6x17cm exposures on 120 film. It features ratcheted film advancing and a film index card holder.
