Comments about DILRU3200BL Digi-Slave L-Ring 3200 LED Ring Light:
This is astoundingly bright running at full power, it is almost too bright to look at. Since it is a continuous source, it is ideal for video cameras, although it can certainly be used on a still camera as well. And since it is a LED device, it runs for hours on a set of 4 AA cells. The manufacturer claims compatibility with almost any lens, but its touch and go if it will work on a 77mm lens without vignetting. It will depend on you particular lens and camera, be prepared to crop! Smaller lenses are no problem, but make sure you do your step up/down with a single adapter and not by stacking several. However, it is MOST unfortunate that the makers of this product did not see fit to tint the clear plastic covering to a ?? CTO or ?? CTS so that the light output would be daylight balanced. As it is, the light requires custom white balance, and then any daylight sources that show up in the frame are too warm to match in properly. The shape of the clear plastic ring makes it rather difficult to cut your own filter, but with patience, it can be done. Rosco Cinegel 3409 (amber), or 3443 (straw) is what youll need if you want to match to daylight. Rosco Cinegel 3407 will put you in the right ballpark for match to tungsten / quartz, but you might need to add a layer of 3410 as well to get it spot on.This would have been a PERFECT 5 star product if the maker had provided pop off lenses that match the cold white LEDs to daylight and tungsten. And it would have only cost them pennies to do so. Yet another close but no cigar product. Shame.
