Pentax TR Power Pack III for AF-540 FGZ Flash
The Pentax TR Power Pack III is an external power pack for the AF-540 FGZ flash. It runs on six "C" cell batteries, and will significantly increase the flash capacity and decrease the recycling time of the flash.

A must have addition to the AF-540FGZ flash unit as I do a lot of night photography - no problems with cord pulling out as in previous comments - plugs clip in nice and secure now. Very fast recycle time and easy to use.

I had to do a Fashion shoot for the local show and boy, I sure could have used this baby then.
The recharge time on the AF540 with rechargeable batteries is woe-full without one .
I couldn't find a TR III in Australia (out of stock),
B & H to the rescue ,best value as well.
I'm only an amateur ,but I have been playing with cameras for 27 years now
( I own 42 different Pentax cameras,from the original Asahiflex to the latest K7) And this unit really makes life that much easier for me.
I've heard a few grumblings about the weight ,and cords pulling out ,but to be honest ,It's not that heavy ,I wear it around my neck ,and I haven't had a problem with the cord coming adrift yet.
Sure the cord could be a little longer, but nothing is ever perfect for every one.
Doing any repetitive flash work with an AF540FGZ I would definitely recommend the TR III

This thing really helps the recharge rate on the AF540FGZ, and it's a must have accessory for that flash if you do events, weddings, or any photography that needs a relatively rapid series of flashes. The one thing about it, and it's been mentioned in other reviews, is that the cable is too short. It is definitely too short if you clip it to your belt. I put another camera strap on it so that it is just below my underarm or along my rib cage. The other problem is the plugs do not have locks and have a tendency to pull out. This can be solved by using a rubber band wrapped around the flash, and a long velcro strap wrapped around the power pack. Position them so that they can hold the plugs in. The customer really should not have to deal with this problem this way, but this is the only external power pack available for the AF540. Quantum doesn't make one yet (or at least a cable to let one of the existing ones work with it). The difference in performance is worth it. I would give it 5 stars for the performance, but this usability hit only lets it rate 4 stars in my opinion.

I use this for wedding photography. I like the fact that the batteries it uses are commonly bought anywhere, not proprietary. The only problem I had with it was that the cord pulled out of it while I was wearing it on my belt. I'll have to find a way to prevent that.

It works, but that cable is no where near long enough to be clipping this pack to your belt. Pentax needs to make another cable for this that is 2-3 feet longer.

If you have an all day event (wedding, etc.) then I would definitly recommend this power pack. Its small, recycle times are about 1 sec on full manual power (with good batteries), easy battery changes, and way cheaper than a quantum battery pack.
