Comments about Belkin Hi-Speed 4-Port USB 2.0 and 2-Port FireWire-400 Hub for Mac mini:
The form factor of this unit complements the Mac Mini very nicely. I have always been frustrated by the fact there is no USB port on the front of the Mac Mini and now I have one. It makes photo downloading much easier. Cable for connection to the Mac Mini are provided. I like the fact there is no power cable to further clutter my desk. All the rear USB ports are filled and I have had no experience of insufficient power. The LED is brighter than necessary and much brighter than the one on the Mac Mini. I have no use for the fire wire ports. I don't even know if new hardware uses that interface. If you don't have a Mac Mini, I see no advantage of this unit over other non-powered USB hubs.

Comments about Belkin Hi-Speed 4-Port USB 2.0 and 2-Port FireWire-400 Hub for Mac mini:
USB adds up a nice set of additional USB ports.
FireWire increase is a plus for scanner (Flexcolor 848), External Hard Drive (2TB) on a Mini Mac OSXSnow Leopard Server machine. No problems now with Hasselblad Flexcolor booting and scanning.
Small foot print but still a lot-a-cords, too bad it no (extra) cords package option for 6" to 1 foot cords (FireWire and USBs) a 3 foot to 6 foot makes a birds nest with the nice small footprint of the MiniMac. There are 2 nice small cords but they soon get mixed in with longer cords made to fit.
Does not fit the current MiniMac Server size - but neither does the Mac DVD Air Super Drive and that's Apple design ...?
Still .. in the footprint of a shoe box a CPU/Server-DVD burner-external HD-...and the Belkin Hub

Comments about Belkin Hi-Speed 4-Port USB 2.0 and 2-Port FireWire-400 Hub for Mac mini:
When they state "for Mac Mini" they mean it. The provided cables from hub to "Mac Mini" are very short indeed. i.e., if you are going to use this as a hub plugged into your desktop and not a Mac Mini, be prepared to have it hug the desktop. About a 4" cable. Otherwise, it's great looking, thin, and has all the hub connects that I was looking for. Very happy with B&H Photo. Will buy from them again.

Great looking solution. Easy to set up. Comes with convenient short connection cables. Can stack on top of or underneath your Mac Mini. I've got mine stacked on top so I can switch out cables easily. Thinking about getting another to stack up.

that's right, no wall wart to plug in and take up room on your desk/power strip. It pulls power from both USB and Firewire and can run items you plug in to this hub. I'm using it to power a firewire audio recording interface, so that's two wall warts I'm avoiding, one for the hub one for the interface. It fits quite nicely on the aluminum foot of my Imac. The only other product I've seen that can do this cost a lot more and is about the same size, if not a tad bigger.

the size of the hub is gigantic and you only get 3 usb ports? that seemed kind of whack, thought there would be more jacks for how big the hub is.

Comments about Belkin Hi-Speed 4-Port USB 2.0 and 2-Port FireWire-400 Hub for Mac mini:
...in the box with the Mac Mini.
Belkin figured it out; why Apple didn't is a mystery. If you want a convenient front side USB and Firewire port on a Mini this is the way to make it happen. In addition, it will also expand the number of USB ports on the backside. The hub is *exactly* the same size as the Mini and matches it in appearance; you can stack your Mini on top of the hub and they'll look like they were made for each other. The only "glitch" in the marriage is the small power on LED; it is significantly ...dare I say glaringly ... brighter than the one on the Mini.
Why Apple did not include a front side USB on the mini is a question a lot of reviewers have asked. The Belkin hub solves that oversight with a solution almost as elegant as the Apple Mini itself.

Comments about Belkin Hi-Speed 4-Port USB 2.0 and 2-Port FireWire-400 Hub for Mac mini:
Although I don't own a Mini-Mac, this hub is perfect for use with my Powerbook Pro. I can set it on its side next to my external hard drives. When I am working on photo projects it functions very well and I can remove my laptop easily when I am on an outside project. It needs no external power source and allows me to expand my photo storage capacity as well as easily switch the drives back and forth between my desktop computer and powerbook. I don't know how I got along without it.
A minor drawback is the limitation created by the 6" connection cables if you don't use it under the Mini-mac. Other than this, it sure beats my other hub that requires longer connector cables and transformer.
