bought the GP3 as a portable tripod for my Nikon D60. I chose the GP3 over the GP2 since the price tag was only a few dollars different, but I probably don't need the GP3 to hold much since I only use my camera for catching moments when I'm walking around. Basically photography is not a hobby of mine and I just needed something strong and reliable.

Size
The GP3 fits nicely in my Lowepro Slingshot AW200 sling bag - but considering I only have three lenses for my D60 (18-55mm, 55-200mm, 35mm) and a small flash (SB-400) those that have more accessories and a bigger camera body might not be able to fit the GP3, but there are always the outer straps.

Stability
GP3 is a solid sturdy tripod - I attach the GP3 directly to the D60 (or my Canon D10) and it feels very secure when posing. At first it's a little tricky to mount the GP3 to a pole or a fence, and it would be much easier to position the camera with the ball joint head, but once you get used to it, it's pretty easy and the camera and tripod feel solid

Weight
GP3 is pretty light - I don't notice the weight in the sling bag, but I don't have a ton of stuff either

Unfolds quickly
so long as you have straightened the tripod's legs prior to packing, it's very quick to pull out the GP3 and start using. It might take a second to mount the camera, but I'm not the kind to mount and unmount often and if I need to I can just pick up the whole thing and snap away

Cumbersome
When you are trying to mount to a pole or a fence, it is a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of how to stabilize the GP3, it's pretty fast. When you are packing the GP3, you have to straighten the legs, which depending on how finicky you are, could take a minute, since the legs are made up of interconnected spheres with rubber grips, and they tend to resist movement - which is good, but if you've mangled the legs to wrap around a pole, it can be slightly annoying = though definitely not a huge ding.

Overall
I'm pleased with the purchase and would recommend getting it. If you find that you are the type to use the tripod a lot with weird mounting points, I would probably recommend getting the ball head mount since it can be tricky to get the camera to point exactly where you want it. I haven't since I don't really mount it to poles or fences all that much. But for flexibility and uneven and even surfaces - it's a solid tripod.

Pros: small, lightweight, highly configurable.

Cons: dosn't grip as tight as you might think.

When I first saw these (and played with them in the store) I thought these were just the greatest little tripod. But now that I have one I think any similar desktop tripod would work just about as well; especially the beanbag type.

This gadget is particular as to what it will really grip to. I tried clamping on vertical poles and it just slips down. The best position that I could find did not feel solid enough to let go of my D80.

As a table top tripod, it is really stiff and hard to get adjusted; nearly impossible to get level.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I've been using this tripod for nature shots and it's works nicely. I've been using it with a ball head (Manfrotto 496RC2), which itself weighs almost a pound, and it's still quite stable. It's definitely recommended to use the Gorillapod with a ballhead, otherwise it will be too inflexible to get the camera to point exactly where you want.

Once you start bending the legs, it becomes relatively cumbersome to get them back to be fairly straight.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I have a number of tripods of different sizes and for different uses. A small "pocket" tripod fits the bill when traveling light, but NOT when traveling into the unknown. Gorillapod allowed me to shoot by wrapping it around tree branches; placing it almost flat on a rock at water's level; even hanging the camera upside down from a tree branch. This thing is a sturdy spider that clings to nearly anything, and it can support a 35mm DSLR with a zoom! I highly recommend this aptly named "Gorillapod". Good price. No regrets.

I've also used it as a makeshift brace for a DSLR video shoot, used it to mount a LED light panel, used it as a stand for my iPad, the list goes on.

I've used it as a normal short tripod, wrapped it around the mirror on my motorcycle, poles, uneven ground, etc. I tried a 30 second exposure and it holds very steady as long as you've made sure to secure it well enough. I haven't found it to be difficult to straighten the legs back out like I have seen some others mention. Hope it lasts a long, long time, as it's very handy to slap in the tankbag on my motorcycle and take along on rides with my camera. Highly recommend using a ball head with it or you WILL be messing around a lot!

I needed a tripod to hold my SLR that was strong enough to not fall over or sag. The Gorillapod bends in any direction and the rubberized legs give grip to any surface. Its also small and light enough to pack in a bag for use anywhere (other sizes are available based on your needs). All in all, perfect for time release, extended exposure or self timer purposes.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

It is perfect for my DSLR. It's very durable and useful. First time I was afraid of my camera was falling down but it worked perfectly. It's very lightweight so it's great for traveling.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

If your traveling and within the product's weight limit then this might be what your looking for. Grant it I was skeptical at first but my friend who shoots a 5D highly recommended it. Keep in mine that a monopod is almost useless for slow shutter speeds and in many heavily trafficked areas tripods no longer can be used. So if you understand the Joby's limitations then this little device is really the only acceptable replacement.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I originally got the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom to get low angle shots with my Sony HDR-XR160. I later found it very useful as a nice grip while walking and panning also. I attach it easily before I add any filters so I'm not just laying my camcorder anywhere. It's very light weight, feels durable, and perfect for travel. I'm glad I made this investment.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I've been testing this and it is easy to wrap around things. B&H suggested using the AF-1100E trigger release ball head and it is a great combination. Our African safari vehicles will have a roof that pops up that we can peer out. This a rail on top that I can wrap the back leg around. Anyway that is the plan. Otherwise, I'd be stuck with a beanbag which is not good for movies. Lightweight. I am using with an Olympus Pen PL1, a lightweight mini- 4/3rds SLR camera and 300mm lens.
