The Pentax D-BG2 Battery Grip offers additional power to ensure maximum shooting performance for the K10D & K20D cameras while it's in continuous use. The grip atttaches a second, high-capacity D-Li50 Li-Ion battery (sold separately) to the camera, and features as well an additional shutter release, an adjusting dial for selecting aperture or shutter speed, and other functional controls - making it particularly practical when shooting vertically. The ergonomic design of the grip ensures that the camera fits firmly and comfortably in the hand, and is weatherproof - like the K10D & K20D cameras themselves. Furthermore, the battery compartment provides storage space for an extra memory card and a remote control.

It lives on the camera. I never shoot without it. The battery draw also has storage for one extra SD card. It's perfect for using the camera in the portrait orientation because the second shutter release and controls are right there.
It's possible to half press the second shutter release when handling the camera or chimping, however this is not a problem when shooting. The second power on/preview switch is a bit odd, but at least it allows you to disable the second shutter button when you want to.
Because it uses a standard D-L150 it doesn't add much weight to the camera. The extra battery and SD card means you can easily go all day without worrying about running out of power or memory even if you squeeze off 1000+ shots.

1- The battery grip is good, but there is a design flaw. One battery in the grip, and another stays in the camera. To charge both batteries, one must remove the grip and get the battery that remains inside the camera – not smart.
2- There is a little conflict between the grip and the K20d. If the grip is turned on, the menu function goes weird. It scared the hell out of me when I was photographing in the field with the client by my side. I sweated bullets until I figured the weird things started when I turned on the grip release button. After figuring that, I turn it on only when strictly necessary, but mostly press the camera’s release button with my thumb.
The place for the extra card and the power from the additional battery are excellent. Two demerits that grant a 3 star review from me. As is, I cannot recommend this grip.

Comments about Pentax D-BG2 Battery Grip:
This is a great product that I should have purchased sooner. It has given new life to my well used K10d and a lot more versatility with my shots. I love that all my fingers have somewhere to rest and the entire camera feels more substantial and solid, not to mention it looks pretty good too. The extra controls are helpful on this grip. I can now take photos for up to two weeks between charges; and when I do need to charge batteries, the grip can be attached and removed in seconds. The build quality is quite good. A+ battery grip.
And thanks B&H for carrying this product for an older camera at a great price - much cheaper than here in Canada.

Use it almost all the time for the storage, extra battery and extra, well, grip.
The storage area for a remote and sd card are awesome.
The only reason that this grip lost one star is because the shutter release is very easily mistakingly pressed (seems a little too easy) and it is a little more effort than assumed to get on and off (which you need to do to get the battery out of the body). Still easy to get on and off with two hands, just a little more force than I thought might be required.

Fantastic accessory. I used it for the first time over the course of a long weekend and can't believe how handy it was. Shooting in portrait was fantastic, additional setting and shutter release were great, I never knew what I was missing until I added this. The real kicker, for me, was the addition of a second battery and space for an extra memory card.

It was everything I thought it would be. My only complaint is that my hand touches the auto focus button on the battery grip. Not a huge problem. It startles me from time to time when my hand brushes against the button.

I don't know how I went this long without a battery grip, this thing gives you so many more options in vertical mode.I now take as many pictures in portrait as I do in landscape.also, the grip holds my infra red remote and an extra memory card. I also have 2 very heavy lenses, pentax da*50-135 and a sigma 100-300mm lens that never seemed to balance that well, now with the battery grip I can keep both lenses well balanced with one hand, my pictures are coming out sharper. I also have very small hands and always thought I didn,t need a grip for that reason, with the grip my hand fits the camera perfectly. only drawback is when you keep the grip on, the shutter release tends to go off when carrying it on your side, I can live with that. all and all a great addition to my accessory line up.highly reccomended.

The Pentax grip is very well thought out. Holding extra card, extra battery and remote shutter release. Also portrait controls for exposures when holding camera vertically. Everything at your fingertips. Well done Pentax.

Comments about Pentax D-BG2 Battery Grip:
I use this with a K10D and because I'm accustomed to shooting with medium format film cameras, the added weight is a definite plus and the reason that I purchased the item in the first place. The addition of the second shutter release button and the aperture/shutter speed wheels take a little getting used to because they are smaller (or at least they feel smaller) than the ones on the main body.
For those who need it, there's space inside to store a remote and an additional SD card.

This is great to have for one to shoot portrait and two to have extra battery life along with camera storage for extra memory card and Pentax remote. It does make the camera heavier but at the same time it feels balanced.

It stays most of the time under my K20D,I just shot a wedding and both batteries lasted for more than 500 pictures. Is so great not to change the battery in the middle of a session.Controls are so sensitive that some times you'd change your camera settings and will not notice until you are ready to shoot next picture.

Anyone using the K20D that is serious about his/her photography must get this grip. It gives you additional shooting time when needed when coupled with an extra battery. It also makes portrati orientation photographs easy to take without awkward twisting of the arms to hold the camera steady. Want to travel light, hide an extra memory card and you got it.

This grip makes the camera fit my hands better and (for me) gives it better balance. Love the shutter release on it for verticals.
Having 2 batteries makes it really easy to go on vacation without worrying about recharging the batteries every few hours.
