The WhiBal Generation 6 (G6) RAW Reference Card is a simple-to-use standard for setting white balance in all RAW converters, as well as image editors such as Adobe Photoshop. The light & easy to handle single-card format eliminates a need to fan out reference cards, thereby speeding reference capture.
The WhiBal G6 Reference Card is light Gray, and certified to a recommended Luminance level of L* = ~75, which is optimum for use in RAW converters. The hi-gloss sticker on the corner of the card provides a TrueBlack black patch that has been optimized for a guaranteed Luminance spec of L* < 4. (TrueBlack provides a real black-point reference, as opposed to a diffuse black associated with most other multi-shade reference cards), and the sticker also provides a Whitepoint, integral focus/sharpness target, and handy reference scale in inches and centimeters essential for macro, product and scientific photography. The WhiBal hi-gloss sticker, also provides a visual indication within the viewfinder of the angle of maximum glare. By moving the camera or card from the detected maximum glare point, accuracy of the White Balance reference is properly maintained.

Great for RAW workflow in Photoshop Bridge. Just click the eyedropper tool on the WhiBal card and batch process the whole shoot for that particular lighting situation. Colors are spot-on. The Studio size is perfect for carrying in the pocket, on a lanyard (save some $$ and get one at [...]), or in the studio.Seems very durable, and for the price, consider it at leat a 10 year investment--I have no info on how long the gray balance will be in spec, and none is offered at the website. I would imagine that if kept from light in the protective sleeve, it should last for some time: the color goes all the way through. If it seems expensive to you, then think about how many gray cards you will buy over the years that do not meet the WhiBal's rigid specs, or all the time it takes to individually tweak the white balance for each shot if you don't use a gray card. It pays for itself almost immediately. I can't imagine how many gray cards I've gone through over the years, and this one is superior to all of them. No, I'm not related to or employed by the inventor, Michael Tapes. Just a convert, so to say!Visit the website (just Google WhiBal) for instructional videos and for the free converter program if you shoot JPEG.

It does what it does, making white balancing a non-issue.
The problem is the feel of the quality.
I cannot tell whether the material is thick cardboard or just a light porous plastic.
Whether it is either,
it feels like the most expensive piece of cardboard or cheap plastic I have ever paid for.
The carrying case is definitely cheap thin nylon.
I would definitely consider cheaper alternative in the future.

Although my photos looked good using the Canon 7D auto white balance, I was amazed at how much better (true to life) they looked when adjusting the WB using the WhiBal as the reference. It's about the size of a standard checkbook so it easily fits into my Slingshot 200 bag and yet it's large enough to use as in-camera custom WB (however I just take a picture of it in the scene and set the custom WB in post processing). Highly recommended accessory.

Shooting digital and using a software program for post-production; a grey card reading is a definite must.
This card also offers the white and black balance in the corner for calibration.
Take a picture of this card in the light you are shooting in, and simply shoot the entire gig. When you are in post production, change your white balance to the setting from this card. It works perfect everytime.

A nice device for white balance control in digital photography.
Cons: The folder it is carried in is a bit weak and may cause the card to fall out. But if you keep it in your pocket, you'll be okay.

Dead on white balance every time, a must have if you are shooting in church or places that have odd lighting like schools jims and arena's.After you shoot your card and then the event you have your correct white balance in photoshop or lightroom. Set your white balance on your first shot and tell photoshop or lightroom to us that white balance for all your photos for that event.

This is a great product for those of us that are serious about accurate colors in our images.
I shoot a reference frame with the WhiBal card, either before or after my photo session, but always in the same light, as my subject was captured in.
I find it easier to use than my 77mm ExpoDisk and it is truly a one click solution when correcting color casts in Lightroom 2 or Camera Raw in Photoshop CS4.
I also own the credit card size version (2" X 3.5" of this product and they are both great tools.

Although it seems a bit pricey for what it is made of, it's invaluable in terms of what it does. This saves our studio hours on post processing due to difficult and mixed (esp indoor) lighting conditions. We shoot mostly weddings, and there are never two receptions light exactly the same. And no matter your skill level, it's nearly impossible to set a perfectly accurate white balance setting the first time without a gray card. I would recommend this over most other, cheaper cards because it is durable and waterproof.

My DSLR does a great job with the built in white balance presets for most outdoor shots, but to get perfect colors and skin tones with indoor shots, I rely on my WhiBal gray card.
Having a good white balance card is a great way to calibrate a DSLR camera before a photo shoot or for post processing white balance adjustments if you don't have time to do a calibration. I watched all the tutorial and marketing videos on the WhiBal website before deciding to go with this brand, and I am very glad I made the investment. It really makes a difference when you're not exactly sure what type of lighting you're dealing with or when there's a mixture of different types of light sources.
The WhiBal card is very rugged and comes in three convenient sizes. One thing to note when choosing a size is that Nikon DSLR cameras require you to fill the frame with a gray card whereas Canon DSLR cameras do not. Several point and shoot cameras such as the Panasonic Lumix now also support manual white balance calibration to get picture perfect colors.

Never underestimate the importance of a gray card when shooting digital pictures. Using a gray card can make a big difference in the accuracy of your picture color. While the WhiBal cards are more expensive and work the same as a cheaper product, you get a durable/scratch resistant (because the color is throughout the card) and water resistant card that should last. FYI...WhiBal has a great web site that helps explain how to use the card with popular photo editing software.
Even if people make fun of you for taking pictures of a gray piece of paper, don't let that deter you from using this or a similar product.
