Comments about Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 ZF Lens for Nikon F Mount (Black):

I have given this lens a 4 star due to distortions but for my purposes I do not care. Undoubtedly this is one of my best closeup lens for my F and on my D300s the lens operates seamlessly (i use it in aperture priority) once you tell the camera the lens' focal length and maximum aperture. Despite all negative reviewes online I got this because it does what I want it to do pretty well. Other than the above, the lens is quite heavy, took about a hour for me to get used to its slow focussing mechanism. (See this image: [@])

Comments about Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 ZF Lens for Nikon F Mount (Black):

I use this as a wide-angle complement to a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G on my D700; I shoot mostly on camping and hiking trips so for landscapes, image quality across the frame matters a lot to me. The ZF25's performance, even wide open, is truly remarkable. The focus throw is very long, allowing accurate manual focus. Areas that are just out of focus due to depth-of-field are rendered with sharp core images and a pleasing halo instead of being "smeared". Bokeh is excellent, and the ability to focus extremely closely adds an extra element of fun to this lens (though note it is *not* a substitute for a macro lens!) It is beautifully made but the standard front lens cap (which appears to be common to Zeiss's SLR and RF lenses) is truly awful - it almost appears designed to encourage getting fingerprints (or worse, scratches) on the front element. Do yourself a favor and use a Nikon or Tamron cap instead (but keep that Zeiss cap if you ever decide to sell!)

Good lenses, used a lot for red camera projects.
Does little breathing, have good sharp and bokeh and color renditions.
Have a rectilinear distordion. Very good distortion for 25mm lenses

Comments about Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 ZF Lens for Nikon F Mount (Black):

I've got a Nikkor 17-35mm which is no slouch itself but this one beats it hands down. I use it for street shooting as it's compact, unobtrusive, and light compared to 17-35 on my D300. I like manual focusing since it gives me a better control of the depth of field. It feels solid and focusing is fast and smooth. Even at 2.8 it gives a good depth of field when shooting people. So if my manual focusing is slightly off the subject is still in focus. And it gives a beautiful bokeh.

Comments about Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 ZF Lens for Nikon F Mount (Black):

I have had this lens about two weeks now. I have this and a Nikkor 50mm f1.4. The Nikkor is a great lens, but nothing compare to this, in terms of sharpness, colors. On a DSLR, if you don't mind a manual focus, this is definitely the one 35 mm you want. With about 8" near focus, great for close up as well.

The manual focus fixed-focal lens at this price may look too expensive at the first glance... But your doubts will disappear after trying this gem. I thought my 2.8/24 mm Nikkor is good enough, but it does not stand the comparison, by all the parameters including resolution, microcontrast, flare control and distortion control. This immediately sets a new level of image quality expectation for other lenses in your collection.
