The MXL USB.006 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone with a USB port for direct connection to Mac or PC computers. The microphone's condenser element utilizes full +48V phantom power off the USB bus for a full, rich, professional sound over electret or dynamic microphones. The cardioid polar pattern minimizes off-axis noise and feedback without altering it's smooth, wide frequency response.
The USB.006 features a 3-position attenuation pad with 0dB, -5dB and -10dB settings. The digital section features a 16-bit Delta Sigma A/D converter with a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. The MXL USB.006 is sold as a complete kit with stand, windscreen and 10-foot USAB cable; everything needed for successful podcasts, voice overs, project studio recording and more.

I use this mic for voice overs, has adjustable gain which might be nice for studio amps, drums etc...,
Glad I got the shock mount because mic is very sensitive to touch.

Comments about MXL USB.006 Condenser Microphone with USB:
The MXL USB.006 mic is a great choice as a first mic for your podcasting or home studio. I use the mic to record podcasts and voice overs and have been really satisfied with the sound quality.
It's also a simple mic to use, with no extra features that will confuse a novice podcaster. This mic will help you learn the important basics of recording good audio and not distract you with anything else.
Do be aware that the mic has got a background noise which is normal for all mics. I also recommend buying a pop filter to go with the mic because the included windscreen isn't very effective if you're a close talker.

Comments about MXL USB.006 Condenser Microphone with USB:
This thing is brilliant for vocals. It picks up everything (I even leave the wind cover on mine--indoors). The directions said to use it on its max setting, but I found to have a complete sound range without chance for clipping that I had to set it to min and software reduce the sound all the way to 5%. Now this is definitely not the sort of mic that you use off its tripod though (it is way too powerful to need to do that), but that does not matter; this is a USB mic. If you are looking for beautiful range sensitivity and superior sound quality without having to use a preamp, then this thing is perfect.

Comments about MXL USB.006 Condenser Microphone with USB:
I purchased this microphone so that I could begin experimenting with audio recording. However, as soon as I began using Logic 9 and using an Apogee I/O interface, I quickly realized the limitations of this mic. Firstly, connecting a microphone using a USB port is not a very reliable nor professional way for recording great audio. Secondly, as soon as I began acquiring other professional equipment, I realized how obsolete this mic had become due almost entirely to the USB connector. Looking back, I wish I had spent a little more and purchased an affordable professional mic with a proper XLR input/output.

Clear sound, nice weight, durable.
A little too bright and slightly airy for me, but will be a nice addition regardless. Very sensitive, picks up noise you didn't know was there. Good value for the price.
