I exhibit and sell my wildlife photography, and so the prints MUST be perfect. The Epson Photo 1400 printer does an excellent job, as long as I use a tip I read on three other reviewer's reports on different websites. If I let the printer choose the colors, or check the 'photo enhance' button in printing preferences, the color balance makes me wince, as it tends towards green. Similar issues happen when printing from PhotoScape (tens towards magenta) and other photo editing software, EXCEPT: PhotoShop. I make sure that I print from PhotoShop and click the "let PhotoShop determine the colors" option. Perfect every time.
Ink yields are OK. Not terrible and not stellar. In printing a mixed lot of 8x10, 12x16, 11x14, and a few odd sizes to fit specific frames, I'm averaging about 33 prints yield. Factoring the paper and ink, I'm averaging about 5.35 per print, which is still a significant savings over sending out to a photo lab to print. And this way I have complete control over the paper quality used and the color/light balance. Totally worth it.
Overall, for the price of this printer, the fact that it prints up to 13x19, making it a rare circumstance that I send out work to photo lab these days, and the convenience and control of printing my own, I am very happy with this printer.

Gorgeous Glossy - Unacceptable Matte
I purchased the 1400 to replace an Epson Stylus Photo 960 which has served me well for several years. I needed something that would make larger prints than the 960's 8x10 limit.

I purchased the 1400 to replace an Epson Stylus Photo 960 which has served me well for several years. I needed something that would make larger prints than the 960's 8x10 limit.
The glossy photos produced by the 1400 have had deep, rich colors. Skin tone is excellent.
Unfortunately, I prefer a matte finish on most photographs I print, and here the 1400 produces washed out, very disappointing prints, even on Epson Ultra Premium Matte. I don't know if the driver or the inks are at fault, but they lose all richness and color depth, compared to the 960.
I control color with Photoshop CS3 with both printers.
I've noted that many people remark that the printer consumes ink quickly. That may be the case, but we need to remember that an 8x10= 80 square inches, while a 13x19=247 square inches. So each 13x10 we print = three 8x10s. You print big pictures, you're gonna use a lot of ink!

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Inkjet Printer:
I am now getting back into photography and needed a printer that would print exactly what I have. I was totally shocked in how the printer knows hot much ink to put on the paper. I showed it to my son and he was shocked that an inkjet printer could produce something that you might see in a laserjet printer. I am just surprise myself in what this printer can do. Each print amazes me. It was totally worth the money and the wait since it was out of stock when I placed my order. You will not be disappointed, believe me.

Back once again to photography. Just joined the DSLR crowd. Back in the day I was a film photography nut, but the career got in the way.
Been shooting DSLR for about a year now without printing any photos. My wfie says, "What good is the camera if we have no prints?" So, off I go to B&H for a little research on current printers. Also checked many blogs. All said buy Epson printer, Epson ink and Epson paper. Had this bad boy for two weeks now. The output easily surpasses anythings I ever saw with film. 13" x 19" is fanatstic! Shoot, all the prints are fantastic. If you are just a motivated amature, buy this one - you simply can't go wrong! I'm one happy customer.

The printer came under the expected delivery time. It was in a nice well protected box. B&H was the least expensive online and they offer a 80 dollar rebate through epson.

I am printing large format, full color images for my graphic design portfolio. This printer takes up a lot of space on my desk and is very noisy when it prints, but I am happy with it overall. The colors are nice and rich. It's too bad it doesn't do automatic duplex, because the back side is always mis-aligned with the front side.

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Inkjet Printer:
I bought this to replace an Epson R800 which I have used to print 2,000-3,000 CDs since 2003. The R800 finally had a head clog which I could not fix.
This printer is about half the speed of the R800. More importantly, the ink is VERY water soluble. Even after letting printed CDs sit for more than 24 hours, you can very easily smudge a CD using a moist finger. I am embarrassed that I have already shipped some of these to my customers.
I will be returning this and getting a Epson R2000 instead.

Purchased this printer to complete all my marketing materials, hang tags, note cards and product labels. The printer does an outstanding job of printing those fast and very efficient. Have not had the printer very long, so not sure about the things that are no so great. Overall, very satisfied with the printer and the capability. Read a lot of reviews for different printers and this one was the one more recommended.

I use this printer to print art prints. I didn't realize that is was a dye based ink system until I got it home. The colors are gorgeous but I'm uncertain of the longevity of the prints. It seems to be a good starter printer for printing really nice prints. I'm just not certain about how archival they will be.

I use this printer primarily for printing directly onto CDs, but also for the occasional 13x19" standard photos. It is very reliable and the color is accurate. It was simple to set up, and easy to understand for every day printing. Yes, it is pricey to refill the ink, but the quality is worth the cost. Highly recommended.

I purchased an Epson Printer in 2005, it lasted six years and printed CD's. This is the new replacement model #1400 and it works great. I purchased it mainly for printing directly on CD's as we have a radio ministry. I would recommend the product to people who need this capability.
