The #007M Clear MRC (Multi-Coated) Filter from B+W is more than just a protection filter. This unique filter is specifically designed with a hydrophobic coating to wick water off the filter surface. The elimination of water drops means easier maintenance (cleaning) and maximum reflection reduction. This in turn means sharper, clearer images.
The real function of this filter is to reduce the amount of dirt, grease and splashes away from the lens. In that sense, this filter should be considered a necessity for every lens.
The reputation of B+W's Schott glass is world renowned. The high production standards combined with a sturdy brass filter ring make B+W filters hard to beat. These filters have a "heft" to them that is impressive. They may feel heavier but the benefit is in the construction and results. Not only is the glass exceptional but so is the seal between the ring and glass. Schott Glass used in the manufacture of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is harder than traditional B+W glass. This helps prevent scratches as well as being water and dirt repellent.
The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability. In production, the filter glass is dropped into the empty filter ring from the rear and held in place with a threaded retaining ring; this is a definite advantage over a competitor who uses a spring clip to hold the glass in place. A threaded retaining ring will hold the glass firmly and securely in place to avoid the possibility of rattling and provide perfect parallelity and flatness to your front lens element for ideal optics. The part about additional filters not binding is due to the fact that brass is a very stable metal and does not contract or expand like alloy.

Comments about B+W 58mm #007M Protection Clear MRC (Multi-Resistant Coating) Filter:
Glass is invisible head-on and low-reflective at angles, with no coloration. Foam in plastic case, however, was cut for a filter 30mm wider, unlike last B+W filter purchase which came with form-fitting cases.

I use this on my canon 50mm f1.4 lens. This filter does it's job to protect my lens. It has a really good construction and it is really clear. I can't tell the difference of the picture with this filter on or off. Only drawback is the price. But you will get what you paid.

Comments about B+W 58mm #007M Protection Clear MRC (Multi-Resistant Coating) Filter:
The Clear Filter is used to protect the front lens of a Swarovski 6Zi 2,5-15x56 Rifle Scope. The outer ring of the filter is unfortunately a bit smaller than that of the rifle scope - reducing the light intake marginally. This however is not that crucial in daylight hunting.

Use this on my f1.4 50mm lens. Optical quality is superior, with no color cast that I can see, and no vignetting from the filter ring.
I only buy B+W filters any more, as they never get stuck and are very well made.
All pros, no cons for this filter!

Never understood why one should put a UV filter on for protection since the camera has UV protection built in. You don't have to... This filter is very well built and multicoated and provides good protection for the lens

I deliberately got a clear filter to protect the lens as it does not affect the white balance. This one is crystal clear.
