Our project made use of makeshift boompoles that were never fully reliable. But now with the Gitzo boompole, reliability worries are a thing of the past. Easily compatible with even the most inexpensive shock mounts, our microphones now are where we want them and when we want them there. And, it's clear from the boompole's construction that the Gitzo will stand up to even the most punishing uses. We can confidently expect years of multiple carefree applications of the Gitzo.

I have used many different boom poles in my time, and this was my least favorite. For starters, it is REALLY skinny, so the support is not very rigid—particularly with the use of a blimp windscreen. Second, the locks are not very secure, so the pole collapsing often, especially in cold weather. Lastly, everything about the pole felt kind of cheap. I will think twice before purchasing another Gitzo pole.

Comments about Gitzo 1540 - Four-Section Carbon Fiber Boompole:

This is a great price for such a long & lightweight pole. If you've shopped around and decided to go aluminum to get past 6 feet or so, this is worth a look. It has provisions for internal cabling, but I don't think I'll mess with that. Very light, very rigid. (The included "bag" is made out of something like dryer sheets so I wouldn't expect it to last, it's just there so they can mention it in the ad.) But at this price, I can live with that.

Comments about Gitzo 1540 - Four-Section Carbon Fiber Boompole:

Good boompole, a bit expensive, but it is carbon fiber and very light. Great for long shoots. Be careful, carbon fiber can snap and crack, not like the aluminum poles that would just bend when you are being rough with the gear.

Just used this on a 1 day shoot. It performed well.

Best thing IMO is the mounts ability to hide in the pole itself, keeping it safe during travel.

Comments about Gitzo 1540 - Four-Section Carbon Fiber Boompole:

I was looking for a not too expensive carbon fiber pole and I think I found it. It's not as tough as an aluminum pole, but it's very light. So I guess I'll have to treat it with care, but it's robust anyway. It's very beautiful, it's made in Italy and it's got this hi-tech, fashion design. There are holes at each end so you could manage to run a cable inside. Once you get used to screwing/unscrewing the sections, it's very easy to have it extended with just a little twist for each section, and you don't need to screw it hard once you've finished work.

When I got this pole I was so surprised at how lightweight and thin it was, but the thing is built well! The locks are high quality and easy to tighten/loosen and pole stays straight and sturdy without any bend you sometimes find in longer poles. So far, very worth it.

This has got to be the best bargain in boompoles... Gitzo quality at the same price as knockoffs. Everything about it is first quality: light and strong, not to mention good looking.

The only reservation I have is that it feels a little short for general use, even though the length is about average. I'm sure I will encounter situations where I'll want more reach, but since I'm just starting out I'm not going to try and be ready for everything. I'd rather save money over the 3560 and have a lightweight pole for most of the work I do, where this will work great. I did consider returning this for the longer pole but I think I'm going to take my chances with this fast and light solution.

I did a lot of research before I grabbed this and I wasn't disappointed. For the price it's a no brainer. Extends and retracts quick and easy, very lightweight and provides no sound problems in the hand of an experienced user.
Twist to unlock is a little fumble-some at times but it's not that big of an issue.
                        Love it.

Comments about Gitzo 1540 - Four-Section Carbon Fiber Boompole:

Super-light, in fact. If it wasn't for the trusted name of the Gitzo brand, I would be hesitant to put any mic that I value on this thing. But I do trust Gitzo, so I don't hesitate.

With the low-cut on on the microphone and mic-pre, the handling noise is as little as I've ever encountered with a boompole, and the reach is quite far. Add some soft, slick (cheap acrylic weave are great) gloves, and your handling noise is minimal.

The locking mechanisms are a little finicky when extending and retracting, but they definitely seem solid for holding extension when the boom is in use. Plus, the particulars of loosening and tightening them come with practice.

I do recommend investing in a hard shelled case for this thing, because it does not come with any form of structured protection, and it's a bit too long to pack into my audio gear bag, and I wouldn't want to put a carbon fiber pole (unprotected) into a bag with a bunch of metal stands.

Comments about Gitzo 1540 - Four-Section Carbon Fiber Boompole:

This is a fantastic pole, built with top-quality materials, and having excellent fit and finish. Smart looking, as well. The twist locks hold securely with just a light fingertip rotation, and unlock freely. The pole slides fairly smoothly, and I can already tell will become smoother with use. I plan to lubricate it with a dry teflon-based lubricant, also.

As it's made of carbon fiber, it's very lightweight, and easy to use at full extension in any position, even for long scenes. I got an uncabled pole, because I wanted lighter weight, and didn't want the hassles that internal coiled cables sometimes have (jamming and handling noise). While it's uncabled, it has holes in both ends if you wish to run your own cable inside. You'll have to remove and re-solder the cable ends to make it fit, but it is possible to do. A thinner cable would be best if you choose to do this. I'll try it out soon, but I'm quite happy to run an external cable, and tape it on with some gaff tape.

The size, four sections at about nine feet total length, is perfect for the feature film work I'm using it on. There may be better choices that collapse even smaller, for use in fast-paced news gathering situations, for example. This is by no means large when collapesed, however!

There is very little flex when using it, and very little handling noise. The carbon material, along with padded handle and rubberized locking collars make for great damping.

Overall, I'm very happy with this boompole, and I plan to put it to many years of demanding use!

Comments about Gitzo 1540 - Four-Section Carbon Fiber Boompole:

Our project made use of makeshift boompoles that were never fully reliable. But now with the Gitzo boompole, reliability worries are a thing of the past. Easily compatible with even the most inexpensive shock mounts, our microphones now are where we want them and when we want them there. And, it's clear from the boompole's construction that the Gitzo will stand up to even the most punishing uses. We can confidently expect years of multiple carefree applications of the Gitzo.
