Mac user with numerous firewire peripherals and never enough built-in ports. This unit does exactly what it's designed for at a very reasonable price. As some have noted (here, and it also comes in white), it's not very "substantial" in terms of size, weight or feel but if your work area is as crowded as mine, that's actually an advantage. I've got four of the six ports utilized regularly and have thus far had no problems whatsoever. Everything I've plugged in is recognized and runs exactly as it did when connected directly to the built-in computer port. The only complaint I would have is the impregnable, environmentally unfriendly thermally sealed plastic packaging; the kind that makes you feel it would be easier to break into a bank :)

With the Digital World as it is today, with many wires, one can feel tie up. In the fire wire world
it can become most stressful, with so many Fire Wire devices and not enough ports on computers. I, no longer need to turn off a device to connect another,
thanks to Belkin 6-Port FireWire 400 Hub silver, which is also powered. Now I can power up without having to switch, switch, switch.

This product is great if you need more 6 pin ports but if you at all worried about losing data unexpectedly, this product isnt for you. If you bump the table, slightly nudge the device, add any other plugs to your computer, the device will eject all connected ports. For the brand and price, you get what you pay for. With all that said, it has helped me when needing to connect multiple drives with high transfer speeds.

I didn't realize until after I bought this that I could string firewire drives together so essentially doing the same thing, however, I like this better! I have even more ports available with the option to string some drives still and I feel like I can keep my cords more organized. It is a great little tool! It is lightweight and feels a bit cheap, but it works great!
