The Jobu Design BWG-J2 Black Widow Jr. 2 Gimbal Tripod Head is a gimbal-type tripod head that allows the entire weight of the camera and lens combination to be hung rather than balanced.
This Gimbal design allows the camera to be sidemounted rather than to be placed on top of a ball head. This is especially useful for larger telephoto lenses or spotting scopes. This way the lens can rotate around its center of gravity, dramatically improving handling and vibration dampening.
The Jr. 2 is useful for small-to-medium telephoto zoom lenses with a rotating tripod collar, such as: 100-400mm f/4 lens, 70-200mm f/2.8, 50-500mm, etc.

Lightweight, smooth, stable. Actually rock solid.
A good product for the price. Need to use it with a good stable tripod to get the full benefit.
Great for packing as it doesn't weigh a ton.

Comments about Jobu Design BWG-J2 Black Widow Jr. 2 Gimbal Tripod Head with Arca-Swiss Type Quick Release Base (Requires Plate):
I use this with my Canon 40D and the 100-400 IS lens. I put a Wimberley P20 quick release plate on the tripod collar. This set up is what I take hiking with me so weight and size is important. It is easy to pack and easy to set up. My camera balances perfectly and I can even put a flash and better beamer on the camera and still have it balance. The camera absolutely does not drift until I move it. One thing I didn't consider when I bought this is I can't use it with lenses that don't have a tripod collar.

Comments about Jobu Design BWG-J2 Black Widow Jr. 2 Gimbal Tripod Head with Arca-Swiss Type Quick Release Base (Requires Plate):
This unique gimbal fills the gap between full sized heads and ball type heads. Perfect for medium sized telephotos and zooms, it is ruggedly constructed and balances 300mm f4 and 80-200 f2.8 size lenses perfectly. At about half the cost of a full gimbal head it offers quality construction and excellent performance.

Comments about Jobu Design BWG-J2 Black Widow Jr. 2 Gimbal Tripod Head with Arca-Swiss Type Quick Release Base (Requires Plate):
It performed very well with the weight of a 200-400mm F4 VR lens and Nikon D2x. The lens and camera remained steady with very little vibration. Hiking long distances with a long telephoto lens and related gear made its light weight its greatest feature. There was noticable vibration when used with a 600mm F4 lens.

Comments about Jobu Design BWG-J2 Black Widow Jr. 2 Gimbal Tripod Head with Arca-Swiss Type Quick Release Base (Requires Plate):
Last November (2007) I purchased a Jobu Black Widow Jr. 2 Gimbal Head with the L Bracket Upgrade that converts the side mount lens clamp design to a top mount. As a bird photographer, I discovered the very quick, smooth and solid action of the Gimbal unit to be a pleasure to use. The camera/telephoto system can be balanced easily on the tripod, and there is no annoying drift when the camera is focused on the subject.
I was so impressed that I then purchased a complete 2nd system to use on my other tripod which I use with a spotting scope and for digiscoping.
These recent Gimbal Head purchases have made my life as a birder and a photographer much more enjoyable
