I bought this tripod for taking low shutters speed outdoor/nature photos as well as bracketted photos for HDR. I am using nikon d70s, and my heaviest lens is nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8ED. That two combined still weigh less than this tripod max load. I have been using it, even without shutter remote release, and still get sharp picture. In my opinion this tripod is the best in its class (up to 11lbs max load). I did long and careful research about all kind of tripod at this price and around 11lbs max load, this is suit my need best. I chose this over 055xb because my gear total with photo backpack not exceed 11 lbs so i still can use 190 xb, and 055xb weight 1 more pound/ i dont need extra load. I am 5'6 and 190xb total height is about the comfort level. If you are much taller, thus i assume bigger and stronger (to carry extra weight), then 055 series would be better as i would imagine 190 series will be too short and can be problem.

Manfrotto 190XB is a decent inexpensive tripod. Great for medium duty videography with small camera or DSLR.
Some minimal issues worth mentioning, but not a dealbreaker:
The center column binds when making fine adjustments. The flip locks are adjustable and tight, but feel kind of flimsy. And the legs have some flex when panning with a lot of drag.
I tried to mount an IGUS slider on it... NOT! Did I hear somebody say "get jiggy with it"! Maybe in a pinch with a gentle touch, but the legs just have too much flex for the span of a 36" slider.
Overall, I'm happy with it. Like I've said before,'when used as intended', I give it a thumbs up as an affordable option built by Manfrotto.

I had a larger set of legs and they got stolen so I got a smaller set this time. They feel a little fllimiser than the ones I had before but they still work fine

This is the first tripod I have purchased. I love the sturdy construction and the ease and simplicity of use for a beginning photographer. The ergonomic of the leg-angle release and the quick action leg lock releases make it a gem to work with. I am using this tripod for stock photography. Even though I purchased a bag for this item...I loved the fact that it fit in my carry-on.

I gave my rating taking value into consideration. Nobody will mistake this for a $1K tripod and head set. That being said, if used cautiously and intelligently it is a quality set and a great deal for the money. It securely holds my D300s and 70-300mm. With all legs extended, there is a little flex but not bad. Weight is not bad either. For the money you can't go wrong!

Love this tripod, It's simple yet very versatile. The foam grips are great and make it easy to carry. The legs also pull out very fast and this is convenient. I love the center column, as it extends out very high and has done some great landscape photography. I also did a video review on this if any of you are curious: http://youtu.be/u72I_D1YyBk

This is great legs but If you are planning to buy the legs for the video? this is not the perfect match.
I've been using it a lot but everytime, I had some difficulty to adjust a head horizontal. it doesn't move separately, you have to adjust by lowering or highering thie legs.

This is my first professional tripod and I was not disappointed... It is very sturdy and serves the purpose for all my studio needs. I especially like that it folds down close to the ground so I can use my macro lens. I would recommend this tripod for any photography enthusiast!

When I started doing some handheld HDR photography I quickly realized the importance of having a good tripod. After shopping around, this tripod seemed to fit my needs without breaking the bank.
It is very stable and legs are easily adjustable and holds my Canon T2i with a 18-105mm lens without problem.
Going on an extended hiking trip with this tripod might not be recommended due to its weight. It does the trick however for everyday armature use.

Comments about Manfrotto 190XB Tripod Legs (Black) - Supports 11 lbs (5 kg):
I use this tripod to shoot both stills and video. I use a Nikon D70, an F100 (with battery grip), and a Mamiya RZ67 for stills. The tripod is solid enough for the RZ67. I use a light-weight Sony consumer video camera. I have separate heads for stills and video.
I have no problems at all with stills. If you shoot video you may want to hang a weight from the built in protrusion on the tripod for this purpose as you might move the tripod slightly when disengaging the pan or tilt locks prior to camera movement. A set of leg spreaders would help, as well (or just buy a video tripod as the spreader can be pricey.)
Also, if you are backpacking, don't take this tripod as it is fairly heavy -- not the heaviest one around but it could become tiring after a day in the woods.
All in all, a good buy.

I purchased the 190xb tripod for use with the 701hdv video head. The combination works excellently.
The legs are lightweight, easily adjustable and can go quite low to the ground using a removable center column.
I am quite pleased with my purchase.

bought this for a friend, and used it with them briefly. Does what you expect. A good high quality small basic tripod, that is quick to use and sturdy and so much better than the 'consumer' models.
