I already owned the VL3 (3 watt) Canon video light, which works fine, but wanted a second more powerful light.
This 10 watt light uses the same batteries as my GL2 .. a definite plus .. and, of course, it puts out more light than it's 3 watt cousin.
Is 10 watts enough for you?? Only you can say. There are some folks who want a 20 or 30 watt light and would not be caught dead with anything smaller.
This light does its job, and does it well. NOTE: I own the previous model (not a model II) Canon has added a circuit that extends bulb life. When you first power on the light it does not come on at full brilliance. After about one second it goes to full brightness and stays there.
Most bulbs burn out when turned on. By having less strain on the bulb (not full brilliance) the bulb has time to warm up and there is not as much "shock" to the filiment ... the bulb lasts longer.

Very Bright
Great for outdoor use; however, somewhat blinding indoors. I had to get creative since you have no control over the light intensity.

I shoot weddings in the area as well as short films and free lance. And it does the job. Powerful light... yet blinding when looking into the camera. Wish it came with some filters of some kind because it only has one setting of brightness.

I bought this light to use a wedding that was outdoors with no minimal lighting. It help me get the shots I needed for the client without having to sacrifice quality but adjusting the gain settings. Being a Canon camera user makes it a great light because you just pop in a battery, turn it on, and you are ready to shoot. It would also make a great fill light for an interview you were lacking lighting on if you are up close.

Comments about Canon VL-10Li II On Camcorder Battery Video Light:
This light gives sufficient illumination for my wedding videography even in the darkest venues. Great for the price and saved a lot of money since I was actually going to buy a much more expensive light but saw the reviews on this one and decided to give it a try. Don't regret I didn't get the more expensive one.

I am a wedding videographer and was looking for a light that would give me great results and was even looking to spend much more on a light in hopes that it would give me great results. I am glad I didn't, this light has the sufficient power I need for the events I film. That goes for some of the venues that are pitch black. Great buy!!

Comments about Canon VL-10Li II On Camcorder Battery Video Light:
I just needed on-camera light for general use (Canon XL1s) and this does a pretty good job to illuminate subjects. It depends on which batteries you use for camera and the light, but this can add a bit more weight than you would like. I would recommend that you prepare multiple smaller batteries if this is an issue for you. I wish this had other power options, but, hey, for the price, this is wonderful.

I use this product on my XHA-1 for videoing hunting. The light is bright, operates on the same battery as the camera, and a necessary add-on for nighttime retrievals. This is the perfect accessory for the money. I recommend the light for anyone videoing at night in need of light.

I have used the product on several wedding shoots. The light is not overwhelming, and produces great results. Working in Post is a joy, as there is very little correction to worry about. The self contained battery on the unit, frees up the the camcorder for the entire wedding.
A great product, highly recommended.

I use this light with my Canon XHA 1 Camcorder. It is very handy, it uses the same batteries that the camcorder uses. The 10 watt bulb provides ample light to improve low light situations. It fits nicely in my camera case.

I bought the VL-10li almost two years ago,This is our second one for our second camcorder, my wife and I shoot weddings and events with canon xh-a1's and vl-10 video lights. The light uses the same batteries as our camcorders do, and it lights any subject evenly!
