LensCoat LegCoat Tripod Leg Protectors (Black)
The LensCoat LegCoat Tripod Leg Protector Set is a set of three tripod leg covers, which are made of closed-cell foam padding and heavy-duty neoprene. They are soft to the touch but rugged in function. The padding guards your hands from the cold tripod legs in lower temperatures, and can protect the tripod from minor nicks and scratches. Made with "hook & loop" fasteners for easy assembly.
Finished in simple black, ideal for everyday use. Also available in camouflage patterns for different seasons and habitats .

I got these for my gitzo 3531lsv and i love them. i frequently walk around with a large lens, camera body etc. attached and the foam padding and neoprene cover make it very comfortable against my shoulder. they fit perfectly and go on super easy. i got one of the neoprene covers pretty muddy at a local pond and i took it off and rinsed it with warm water and soap and it cleaned right up. they also protect the tripod from getting scratched up plus they are more comfortable to grip in the cold weather then the cold carbon fiber legs.

I ordered this item to provide me some shoulder padding when carrying a heavy camera body/lens combination in the field for wildlife photography[...] I did not install it on my tripod. The foam rubber padding was too soft and split lengthwise. Adhesive tape was furnished for installation. I have a scope tripod that I added leg protectors to some years ago, and they came with dense and durable foam padding that slid on the disassembled leg tubes. That's what I expected this to be. I'm still looking for something like that, but in the interim I have purchased some high density pipe insulation from a plumbing supply store that is adequate but not durable.

I guess they feel nicer to the touch than the carbon fiber legs when you put them on and it makes the tripod legs feel soft when you hoist it over your shoulder for transport, but do I really need padded leg covers for my tripod? If it protects my $600 investment from fracturing, then I guess they would be worth it, but....
