The creative aperture kit produces some neat effects when you catch the light just right with your Lensbaby. Getting the desired effect requires a lot of patience, though, so don't give up too quickly. My fiancee used a crafting holepunch to create some neat effects from one of the included "blank" discs. It did take a bit of an effort for her to do it, though, as the discs are not as easy to puncture as they may appear.

So far this has been a load of fun to push the creative edge of the lensbaby system. I have been using the aperture kit with a macro lens and shooting floral in bright light. The aperture kit itself is easy to use, but what I like most about the lensbaby system as a whole is it forces you to really get in touch with your more creative side.

Product is creative and interesting to use. Needs practice and thought to use. results have been good. Will be better the more it is used.

These do not vignette the photo – the effect of the star, heart, etc. show up in the out of focus highlights. I shot a couple with the heart filter against a background of backlit trees (sunset). The secular lights coming the trees all turned into subtle heart shapes. Great add-on for the Lensbaby.

The Star and Heart aperture rings the kit comes with are great fun to use, but even better - you get to make your own! They have about the consistency of a thin refrigerator magnet material. The shape of the aperture appears in specular hightlights (little sparkly lights) in the out of focus areas of the image. Easy to use as the original aperture rings, and they fit in the holder provided with the lens. Great fun - a must have item.

They're amazing... Haven't figured out how, but they just work. All/most lights in the out of focus range take on the shape of the creative aperture. Hearts/stars/whatever shape you have in the Lensbaby, will surround your object. The hardest part is figuring out what new shape/effect you want to make for the aperture.
