The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera incorporates 7.2-megapixel resolution with a 12x optical zoom (36mm - 432mm equivalent) LEICA DC lens with MEGA O.I.S., Optical Image Stabilizer that compensates the hand-shake. The camera incorporates a joystick which allows easy manual control of focusing in addition to exposure settings, making the camera more compact and easy to carry while preserving all of the powerful zoom capability and manual controllability of more expensive Digital SLRs.
The DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera also has a large, 2.5-inch LCD which uses a pixel-mixed readout method, improving brightness over typical LCD displays, and allows you to enjoy comfortable shooting even in low-lit situations. The display is also extremely easy to view from a low angle (e.g. when taking photos raising a hand upward to shoot the subject over the crowd) with the High Angle LCD function. The Power LCD function also supports clear view even in sunny outdoor by offering a brightness boost of up to 40%. The DMC-FZ8 is powered by a high capacity Lithium-ion battery; combined with the efficient power usage of the Venus Engine III processor, you'll get an impressive 380 shots on a full charge.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera (Silver):
I've had a couple of photography classes back in the day, so I was looking for a camera that had an automatic setting as well as manual settings, and the Lumix DMC-FZ8 fits the bill. Shortly after getting it, we took a trip to NYC and everyone has commented on how clear the pictures came out. This is a very easy camera to operate and understand, and comes with everything you need to start shooting right out of the box (after charging the battery, of course).
What would I change about this camera? First, I would have liked it in black, but that was out of stock when I purchased mine. Second, I'd have liked a second battery, so I can always have a fully charged one with me. Lastly, the LCD screen is a bit difficult to see in the sun (while on LCD, I'd have liked an optical viewfinder instead of the LCD one). I don't think I could come up with anything else this camera is lacking.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera (Silver):
Coming from Panasonic compact product, this one will be easy to handle (same interface and operation principles).
I found it very light and easy to use (especially thanks to the magical grip).
The images quality is impressive for such a price (and please do not say it is because I am so talentuous !). Without saying a word about the stabilization tool (even with x12 zoom)and the operation in low light conditions that are impressive !
Up to now I do not regret my choice.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera (Silver):
I did a lot of research before I bought this cam. It had awesome reviews all over the web and now that I own it I see why. This camera takes a more professional looking photo with ease. It is a little bigger than and has more feature options than your typical point and click camera; however the instructions are laid out excellent, easy to read, and are somewhat educational as well. If you just want a better looking photo with point and click ease it has a mode for that too...... I'm definitely satisfied with this camera. I recommend it to anyone who wants professional looking photos without the huge price. Obviously this camera isn't top of the line either, so your expectations should also remain realistic.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera (Silver):
Great camera for the price. Ive had a lot of comments on how lucky I am to own such a camera, and it is very true. [...]. I have had this camera for about 6 months and have had no problems. I am slightly dissapointed that there is no solution to the fact that you have to change the battery pack after about 5-7 hours. This is a problem for me, since I will shoot every day or every other day. Noise is a problem sometimes, but not the majority of the time. It is also nice to shoot on RAW files. When I compared it SIDE-BY-SIDE with the Canon S3-IS the Panasonic was by far the best choice. The canon had bad image resolution, uncomfortable to hold, and the LCD was pretty dim while it had full battery on the brightest setting.
Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera (Silver):
I bought the camera on recommendation for a trip to South Africa to take pictures of wildlife. This is my first digital camera. After years of logging heavy and bulky equipment this is a great alternative and it takes very good pictures with the greatest ease. If you set it on P it pretty much does everything for you and you can fine tune later with editing soft ware. Ideal for taking fast pictures without much worry or preparation. It is not very sturdy, though, especially under safari conditions: I dropped the camera three times: after the first time the left top cracked but it still worked, the second drop had no impact, after the third drop part of the settings did not work anymore. I actually bought a replacement in S.A. (either that or no more pictures) at about twice the price of B&H but at least I could continue to take pictures.Highly recommended if you are not quite ready for a much more expensive digital SLR and still want to take great pictures.
Expertise: Semi professional, wildlife photography and videography
Problems Encountered: The plastic housing is not sturdy: never drop the camera more than a foot or it may crack.A second battery is certainly a good idea if you are out shooting for a whole day.

Items I Recommend: Second battery, maybe polarizing filter
Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera (Silver):
I have owned a few camera's over the years and find a lot of functionality in this one for the money. You can do it in simple mode or do everything yourself. Light and easy to use for my wife but I can do all the little things that I want for special affects.
Expertise: Novice - above Novice
Problems Encountered: I would recommend a second battery for those of you who wish to take a lot of pictures and don't have a place for recharging the battery supplied. AA's would be nice for replacement.
Items I Recommend: 2nd Battery
Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Digital Camera (Silver):
This camera was a very good buy. It takes some really great pictures. I do however feel that the MEGA OIS is a bit over hyped. I watched all of the videos on Panasonic's sight and it had me believing I almost COULDN'T take a blurry shot. That's not the case. It only helps when your trying your very best not to move it, and then some shots are still blurry. But, to be fair, there in low light. And I can tell that it is better with it, than w/o. I don't know how well its supposed to work vs. other cameras so I don't know what I should expect. Mode 2 is supposed to be better than 1, but I find one works better up close, and 2 is better in tele. Colors are fantastic, and it has lots and lots of options. I do wish the date stamp would work like other cameras though. I resized them down to 3M to stamp, if there taken at 7 or 5M.
Expertise: Novice
Problems Encountered: Date stamping is all but worthless. Wish the OIS was better, like the website makes it seem.
