Delkin Pop-Up Shades are LCD screen protective covers, which double as glare guards. These sturdy, lightweight covers are easily installed (and removed), protect a digital camera's expensive LCD screen in the closed position, and pop up to provide easier viewing of the display in bright sunlight.
The Digital SLR Standard Shade is Delkin's most popular model, and simply snaps on to the back of your digital SLR camera. Optical-grade clear glass panel to protect your camera's screen is included, and the hard-impact plastic design leaves less chance of scratching or breaking your display when the shade is in the closed position. The pop-up design allows for easy opening to block the glare.

For starters, this item is ideal for those who want good protection for their camera's LCD screen, as well as a way to block its glow at night. If you are the type of person who reviews their photos after every shot though, this might not be for you as the shade has to be popped down for taking photos.[...] this does make the product a perfect size to replace the clear screen protector that comes with the Camera Armour product, allowing use of both simultaneously. Not only does the combined use offer all-around protection for the camera, but it looks sharp as well.I have had this shade/protector on my D40 since I purchased the camera and have never had an incident where I wished it wasn't there. It is especially useful at night for shielding the glow of the LCD, as well as helping to shade the LCD during the day time so you can read the information on it.Over all I would say this is a well thought out product that is worth every penny of the price. I would strongly encourage using it in combination with Camera Armour, but it works great on its own. The only con I would give it is the eyecup has a tendency to fall off, but as another reviewer noted a few drops of super glue will fix this.

Since nobody makes a snap-on LCD protector for the D-40 I got this to use instead. The flaps are removable so you basically just have the piece of glass in the plastic case left. As far as using it with the shade, you cant get your eye up to the view finder to take pictures when the shade is up, and its rather annoying flipping the shade up and down after every picture. This was the best solution I could come up with for an LCD protector for my D40.

It's a very good product, simple to install & functional. It shields the sun & provides protection for the screen. The only draw back is you have to open it to review your images & close it to look through the viewfinder,so if you check each image as you take them,it's a lot of opening & closing. So all in all I'm happy with the eFilm pop-up shade

For use in the field protection for lcd is unsurpassed. This product may not be ideal for shooters who refer the screen a lot. I work through the viewfinder and find this product ideal.

I PREVIOUSLY COVERED THE LCD SCREEN WITH A CLEANER CLOTHE TO KEEP IT FROM BEING SCRATCHED OR FINGER PRINTED. WITH THIS SHADE AND COVER ITS SO MUCH BETTER AND SAFER. AND IT SNAPS ON FOR A SECURE FIT. A VERY GOOD PRODUCT IN MY OPINION.

This does exactly what it's designed to do: provides a good shade and protection for the screen. The rubber eye piece falls off too easily but several drops of super-glue will fix that. I don't recommend it for those that are compulsive about looking at the screen after every shot.
I came up from years of film shooting and I trust my skills so I don't need to constantly see what I did. You may be different.

The pop up shade blocks the sun and any glare that may be shinning on to your screen and does it very well. And, it protects your screen from being damaged. I wish I had this shade on my other Digital Camera.
I think everyone who owns a Digital Camera should have this type of protection for their camera.

There are situations in which this product is very useful. But it is not needed all the time. I like that its is a screen protector while keeping glare from the screen. When you spend your money on a D40, it would good to protect the screen so the camera lasts a long time.

Comments about Delkin Devices eFilm Digital SLR Standard Pop-Up Shade for Nikon D40:
Well, the instructions do not indicate that you must take off the soft eyepiece that comes with the camera before trying to attach the pop up shade, so I was ready to return it figuring it was the wrong one. A call to the great folks at B&H however solved my dilemma and explained how to attach it. It is very handy for protecting the LCD screen on the back and for viewing in low light, however, it is very awkward if you are going to check your photos in between taking each one because you must shut it to take the photo and then open it to view the photo. I wasn't thrilled with this, but it seemed like a good idea for protecting the screen. I have yet to use it in the field. Not sure I would recommend this.

The SLR Pop-up Shade is helpful as it protects the screen (which I already had scratched. I feel it is a good product and should be included with the camera when purchased (such as the batteries, charger, etc)

Comments about Delkin Devices eFilm Digital SLR Standard Pop-Up Shade for Nikon D40:
I found that this product didn't really work for me. It didn't fit on the camera securely and I found it annoying that I had to "fold in" the sides before I could close the cover. While I can see it's potential "shade" benefit, it was to cumbersome to use on a regular basis. I ended up giving this product away.

I could not find a cover for the screen on the D40, so I thought that I would give this a try. It works great, Keeps the screen from getting scratched and keeps finger prints from getting on the screen. Only bad thing the rubber eye piece keeps coming off, but this maybe in part because of the case the camera is carried in.

My wife and I do beach shoots here on the Gulf Coast. This shade helps so much for us to review our shots as we progress during a shoot. Even during the evening hours, when the sun is not as bright, it still makes our shots easier to view.
Problems Encountered: My wife uses this shade on her Nikon D-40. She love the fast shooting and ability to get every shot. However, she has encountered an issue using the shade when reviewing her shots as she is in the middle of a beach shoot. She like to constantly review her shots and we move our clients around the beach for various background shots which results in different light levels. Therefore, she must check her results at each new location on the beach. This routine pointed out something that we don't like abut the shade. Here's her routine: She takes a shot or two with a new background and then opens the shade to review her shots. If necessary, she corrects her settings, but then, she must close the shade in order to see through the viewfinder on her D-40. Then she take a couple of more shots in the new setting and she has to stop, reopen the shade in order to view her latest shots. Then she has to reclose the shade in order to see through the viewfinder to continue shooting. This might sound picky, however, it takes extra time when you are trying to continue with your shooting schedule.
