The Singh-Ray Cokin P Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 2-Stop Filter enables the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. Neutral density filters are available in 1, 2 or 3 stops to suit individual situations.
Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. This filter enables cloud detail to be kept correctly exposed in the picture.
Determining which graduated neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Choose the filter strength which adjusts the lighting to stay within the exposure latitude (greatest difference between bright/dark values) which still shows details in both of the digital or film medium in use.
Speaking generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6 - the filter's clear portion allows 4x more light to pass vs. darkest portion) effectively compensates average bright sky-to-foreground situations, and the soft transition is applicable more often to a scene than the hard transition

Comments about Singh-Ray Cokin P Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 2-Stop Filter:
I purchased this filter in order to have just one filter for various lenses. It is a nice size, making it easy to handle with the ability to shift it to gain optimal advantage. The change is subtle and there have been no visible lines in my photographs as to what part has been darkened. And, it comes in a nice leather case that protects it when not in use. I am very pleased with this filter.

Comments about Singh-Ray Cokin P Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 2-Stop Filter:
Just received. Works as advertised. Not at all difficult, though alignment is not precise so take several shots. Seems to work best if you meter the bottom (unshaded) portion and then set exposure manually to that. I'm using it with the wide-angle filter holder, which holds only one filter but is very flat and compact. With different adapter rings, the same filter works for all my lenses, but the filter, holder, and adapter ring (you need all 3) definitely take more camera bag space and take more setup time than simple screw-in filters. But screw-in filters don't work for this application, since you need to adjust the depth and angle of the graduated ND shading. Since there's no perimeter ring, need to be careful about fingerprints. Never had a plastic filter; a little concerned about future scratching. Bottom line: no hesitations. Works as advertised.

While we can do HDR and other in computer edits, getting the exposure right the first time saves time and issues with changing modifying the file.

Great lens for holding back light, and closing the gap between the harsh lighting differences of sky and foreground.

Comments about Singh-Ray Cokin P Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 2-Stop Filter:
If you are doing landscape/nature photography and don't have one of these then you are missing something. Because digital cameras have a compressed tonal range (you can't capture as many f.stops of llight as film could)you need some help making the sky blue. This filter is the best thing for that. Better then polarizing, better than Photoshop, an much-much-much better than no filter at all. Don't have one - get one, you'll be happy you did.

Excellent quality Grad.Neutral density filter...Works like it should. These ones are expensive but its worth it to be able to take photos of more of those high contrast scenes than you normally would. Every photographer should have one of these.

This GND filter does exactly what it's supposed to do, helps balance difficult contrast scenes. The soft gradation change is helpful for a learning amateur like myself, and it has a solid feel with a nice carrying case.

Comments about Singh-Ray Cokin P Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 2-Stop Filter:
I'm still learning how to use it, haven't yet figured it out completely.
It's great for bridging the gap between over/ under exposure. (ie: bright horizons with dark land mass)
Unfortunately they cost a lot and there are far too many different types to have much of a variety. It would be nice if multiple filter kits were offered for less than what it costs to buy them one at a time.

Comments about Singh-Ray Cokin P Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 2-Stop Filter:
This is not cheap (read: inexpensive), but in my opinion, this 2-stop GND for the Cokin holder (P) by Singh-Ray far and away exceeds the optical quality and overall "robustness" of other units I've tried, including the Cokin version.
If you're serious about compressing the light within a scene with the use of GND filters, this unit will be a very valuable addition to your filter collection.

Comments about Singh-Ray Cokin P Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 2-Stop Filter:
The singh-ray 2-stop ND filter is amazing for controlling contrast during Sunrise and Sunset situations. I was bit confused whether 2-stop would be enough or I have to go for a 3-stop filter. After using it 3-4 times in the field I feel that 2-stop soft-edge filter does the job right without making the photos look unnatural. The filters are of very high quality and have no color-cast of any kind. They come in very nice packaging. Using the singh-ray filter in a Cokin P filter holder offers a lot of flexibility as you can move it up or down to align the edge with the horizon. This flexibility is lost if a screw-on filter is used. But due to the Cokin filter holder, the setup is little cumbersome but worth it, considering the final output you get.
