Most LCD screen protectors fall into one of two main categories; the plastic stick-on sheet or the flip-up housing. Stick-on sheets are prone to peeling off, bubbling, and have no positive optical qualities while LCD hoods or screen covers add bulk and are cumbersome while only minimally preserving the LCD image.
The Giotto AEGIS Glass Screen Protectors are very different in as much as they protect the screen with ultra-high quality Schott German glass while preserving the optical properties of the LCD's display. The Schott glass protection is only 0.5mm thick and adds no significant weight or bulk to the camera body. Most importantly, the glass layer protects the screen from impact, chemical damage and scratches which can mar a LCD viewing screen. It affixes to a LCD screen with a thin layer of 3M brand double-sided tape which prevents the risk of air bubbles forming under the glass. An added bonus is that the screen is removable and replaceable if it gets scratched or damaged.
AEGIS 80 Series protectors also feature multi-coatings that lower reflections, withstands UV light, and enhances the overall image display. Both sides of the glass are coated with 12 layers of Anti-Reflective (AR) coating that provide an outstanding 98% transmission of light in the 420~680 nm range.

Three times is a charm with this item. And what I mean bythat is I had to put it on the camera three different timebefore it was actually on correctly. It is very hard to getit directly where it is supposed to be and if you need toget it back off, you need to use a blow dryer for 30 secondsto get it off the camera (the adhesive is very strong which is good, but only when you never want to get it offagain). Otherwise this is a great product. It is made outof glass and it does what it says its going to do. Helpsreally well with the glare and helps to view the picture onthe lcd better in the daylight. Worth the price.
Problems Encountered: Getting it on the lcd screen correctly. If you need to getthe screen off, you should go to giotto website.
Items I Recommend: Blow dryer

Be very careful. This is a great protector at first glance, BUT it is glass, so if it breaks, it could scratch the LCD or cut you. Mine broke somehow inside my bad and when I pulled it out I nearly cut myself. I'm not sure how it broke considering I never dropped it, but it did.
If you want this protector, I advise at least putting a film underneath to help prevent scratching should it break on you. Otherwise, I'd recommend a plastic cover which I now have.

A relatively cheap answer to the M9 plastic back screen. Only problem is mine cracked within a little over a year. No worries though--it's cheap enough that you peel it off, get a new one and move on.

I already use the 3" on my Canon 1Ds and am very pleased with the clarity and protection it provides. The 2.5" is for my Leica M9 and it fits and adheres to wonderfully. This is primarily for protection (which it does a fabulous job on) since the LCD image quality on the Leica's are lousy, to say the least.

This was simple and outstanding. Simple to apply and outstanding in it's virtual invisibility. Can't tell that it is present yet you have the awareness that the display has a "glass cover" that is protecting it from the usual abuse. Highly recommend it and would purchase it again. Much better than the plastic covers that I have seen.

It suppose to protect the LCD of my 7k$ Leica, but it was broken one week after i put it as i hit the camera by mistake with my ring!!
I removed the broken glass carefully as it may easily scratch your plastic M9 LCD screen.
I wonder why they have chosen glass as protection material!! if it's plastic like Nikon's, it'll be way better and reliable ..

I bought a used M8 which came with the screen protector. During travels I found a big crack on it one day so I don't know what would have happened without it ... most likely destroyed the screen. I ordered a new one and it was easy to get the broken one off and the new one on. The price is fairly reasonable too.

This is easy to apply to the LCD screen of a digital camera. I have learned from experience that it does its job. It cracked from an impact, but my camera's LCD is unharmed.

Easy to apply, secure, clear screen. The only issue is that the edges of the LCD are blocked by the darkened edges of the screen protector.

Using this on the M9. Very easy to apply, great protection for the LCD. Unfortunately, the black edges of glass obstruct parts of the LCD screen, especially the top and bottom.

Have tried other brands of plastic camera screen protectors, always end up with bubbles. You have to be very careful applying this one, but when you do, it is just terrific. Very easy to clean. No bubbles.

Comments about Giottos SP8250 AEGIS Professional Glass Optic Screen Protector - 12 Layer:
I use this to protect the screen of the Leica M9. It seems to be a perfect fit, with only very minimal loss of screen coverage on the camera. The M9's screen is very easily scratched, so why not protect it. After all, the camera is very expensive. The only downside to the screen is it can be a bit of a challenge getting it on perfectly. Highly recommended for the M9.

Comments about Giottos SP8250 AEGIS Professional Glass Optic Screen Protector - 12 Layer:
This was easy to apply bubble-free. It provides a very nice feeling that the otherwise-fragile LCD is well protected. The black frame at the edge of the protector covers a fraction of a millimeter of the LCD image area on an M9. To see everything, one must look "under the edge." Tilting the camera first one way and then another makes this possible. So far, it feels like a good trade-off.

Like I said:
Very effective, except by big cold (little vapore inside).
And I do not like to have the name and number of the product in white on black on my camera who is an all black Leica M9.
Publicity eliminated with a black permanent marker...!
An excellent product such as this one does not need written advertisement above.
