Not compatible with 35mm or digital cameras with larger image sensor than APS-C size.
The Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) Lens offers an "all-in-one" super-zoom lens solution, from wide-angle to long telephoto. It provides the equivalent focal range of approx. 29-320mm when used with a Canon digital SLR camera*. This lens has now been updated with the OS (Optical Stabilizer) system, which minimizes image blur caused by camera shake, and offers the equivalent of shooting at a shutter speed 2-3 stops faster. This allows handheld telephoto zoom shooting even in poorly lit conditions.
The 18-200mm's optical design incorporates aspherical lenses and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, which provides the utmost correction for all types of aberrations. It also enables this extended super-zoom lens to be housed in a compact and lightweight construction.
DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is sized to match the smaller dimensions used for the image sensor on digital cameras. As a result these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.
Note! (*) Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras or for any digital SLR camera with image sensor bigger than APS-C size, e.g. 1D series or Kodak Pro SLR/c.

I purchased this lens in July '07. At first I was not very happy with it and seriously considered returning it. I have been mostly using a Canon EF 28-300mm F3.5-5.6 L IS USM on my 5D and the Sigma lens only fits my 10D. So it took awhile to get used to using the older camera with the Sigma lens. And the Sigma lens is not really in the same class as the Canon L lens. After toting the Canon L lens around the US and Europe for the past year though, I wanted to try a lighter configuration. Anyway, after some practice with it, I think my results have improved dramatically. Keeping in mind that this is an inexpensive all around lens, and you can not expect perfect results from an all around lens in any price range, I'm pretty happy with it. The benefits are: 1) it is small and travels well, I don't have to pack an extra bag just for camera equipment, 2) it is lightweight and doesn't wear you out during a full day of shooting, and 3) it doesn't attract as much attention as the big white Canon L lenses. The OS works very well, although not as well as the Canon IS function. The AF is a bit slower than L lenses, but not bad. The 6.3 aperture on the long end of the lens results in slightly dark images at full zoom, but I have found that photoshop curves easily corrects this most of the time. I know a lot of photogs are critical of those of us that like to use an all around lens, but if you are looking for this type of lens, then I feel comfortable recommending it.

It has a great range of focal lengths, so it meets the need for a vacation lens, but it is extremely heavy, maybe heavier than carrying 2 lenses. Image quality is somewhat above average, especially in well-lit outdoor shots. Low light performance is below average. IS works well, although will eat into battery time. A little slow to focus. Don't throw your Canon lenses away, but have fun with this lens when you don't want to be switching lenses - like vacation shooting outdoors - the reason I bought it.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
To be honest, I didn't really know I wanted this lens till I was in the store. I was definitely in the market for a new walk-around/standard/everyday lens, but had been looking at the Canon 28-135 and the Canon 18-135. The salesman, who was very knowledgeable, brought me the two lenses along with the Sigma. What I lost in range made me take a step back. I wasn't prepared to buy a Sigma, I'm sort of a Canon only girl, but I tried the Canon 18-200 side by side with the Sigma, and to be honest, I didn't really see a difference. Sure, it's a tiny bit slower, but I just got back from New Orleans and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My photos came out amazing.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
This is an all in one lens covering the 35mm equivalent focal length range of 28 to 320mm on my Canon 40D with the APS-C sensor, focal length multiplcation factor 1.6. It is heavy and won't work on a lightweight tripod. On the other hand the weight adds some stability to the lens camera combination. The image stabilization works very well. I do a lot of available light photography of sports and performances. This lens will work very well for these events.
The technical reviews indicate that it is very well corrected for distortion and color aberration. My images show this to be true. The reviews also say that the image is very sharp at the extremes of the zoom and a bit soft in the middle of the range. I shoot Raw and sharpen in Photoshop. I've not noticed any major softness of the images.
The manual indicates that the image stabilization takes about 1 minute to go active after power is applied. I've fould that it takes somewhat less than that. Stabilization is very easily seen when holding the shutter release half way down.
When my lens arrived it wouldn't auto focus but "hunted" for the correct focus. I contacted B&H and was sent a shipping label via Email for return of the lens in the box and packing in which it arrived. Being in a hurry to get my hands on a working one, I bought a replacement and arranged for a refund on the first when it arrived at B&H. I received a refund promptly. The replacement lens works perfectly well.
Zoom is easy at the ends of travel and tight in the mid range due to the shape of the internal cam that moves elements when zooming. This might be a problem when shooting video. My use is only for still photography so it is a non-issue for me.
B&H, you folks are great. I wouldn't buy equimpent anywhere else anymore.

I have been searching for a good travel lens or all around lens. and this came up as one of the top based on my searches and reviewing specifications and the photos been taken with this one.
It comes with a hood in the same package. but I prefer that you take a UV protector along with it. The front glass is very big and possible to get interacted with surroundings easily.
You can get sharp photos with this lens but I found the stabilizing a bit less effective than canon lenses. still will save you from most of the blur. though you need a very steady hand in a shutter speed less than 100.
I give the focusing an average speed. and there is a good lock function which is useful when you want to lock the lens from any possible movements.
This lens is just perfect for travelers, you won't have the need to get different lenses for each type of photos.
personally I found the good thing about this lens is that it won't look like a cheap glass on your camera.

Love how fast the auto-focus is. The images are crisp and bright. A bit heavy but that's the least. the lock feature is a plus. Great for outdoor landscapes. The zoom sticks at around 100mm so doing a slow and fluid zoom when in video mode on my dslr is challenging. But overall, it's a great lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
I bought this lens for a couple of reasons.
1) There are times when it just isn't practical to cart a bag of lens around with you.
2) I wasn't happy with the color saturation or the aperture flare I was getting with my 18-55mm kit lens.
3) It got good reviews for construction quality (I had one made by another manufactures that didn't hold up well at all).
So far I have been pretty pleased. Given it's a super zoom one has to expect some degree of softness but so far I can't really say I have seen it. I have also taken some pictures in pretty poor conditions where one would expect to see some flare and so far it's been pretty well controlled. The color saturation also seems to be a bit deeper & warmer than some of the other lens I have tried.
Primary draw back? It' a pretty big lens.
All and all, it's working out pretty, I would buy it again.

I do general photography, and for that this is a pretty good lens. Te price is right, and it takes very clear pictures.
The downside is that the lens is heavy, and feels like it's made from thin plastic. The zoom ring isn't smooth through the entire range, getting "sticky" about 1/2 way through causing frequent overshot of where you want to zoom, if it's on the other side of the stick.
One minor note: the lens petal blocks the factory flash on my Rebel Ti2, which causes an odd lump of darkness in low light.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
I currently have a Canon XSi, and I usually wouldn't buy anything except Canon products, but the price of this lens was very tempting. It's a fantastic carry-around lens to have, and I doubt I'll ever have to take it off of my camera. I mainly use it for nature photography. It allows me to get wide enough for decent landscapes and scenery, yet close enough for wildlife and flowers.
I find the lens to be quite sharp for my needs, with fast, accurate focus and no noticeable fringing or chromatic aberration. The OS is pretty responsive too, and has given me a crystal-clear, sharp image at 1/30th of a second with my focal length at 200mm. I also like where the lens lock is, instead of at the bottom of the lens like the Canon version. It's easier to access.
The only minor drawbacks is that the lens tends to stop its fluid motion between 50mm-80mm focal length. You will notice it stick slightly, but this isn't too much of a problem. Also, with the lens lock positioned so closely to the Auto-focus switch and the OS switch, you may find that you flicked the wrong one if you're trying to change it while keeping your eye in the viewfinder.
I would highly recommend this lens to anyone who is looking for a great carry-around lens, without wanting to pay the price for the Canon version.

I use a Canon t3i, and have no been using this lens for about a month. In terms of a mid-range lens in this category I'm very happy with the purchase -- and I can recommend it without reservation. Moreover, a nearly identical lens made by Canon was about $200 more than this. Get it, you'll like it.

I've been using this lens for about 10 weeks on my Canon T2i and have been very happy with the results. The range gives great flexibility and for me at least, eliminates the need to have multiple lenses. It feels solid and well made, balances well on the camera without feeling too heavy.

This is the ideal walk around lens, to get the best immage quality I would recomend a good quality monopod like the Giotto that I use. I have used this lens for everything accept Macro (not my thing). I found that the colour saturation and good contrast of this lens to be better than some of the Canon lenses that I own. If you need a good walkabout lens then this is it.
