Comments about Braun Slide Scan 4000:

I purchased this unit from B and H.
The color resolution is OK. Not as good as the original.
The multi scanning part works sometimes.
Jams are frequent. Sometimes, the slide gets stuck and cannot be retrieved.
I am using the machine only to scan one slide at a time.
I do not recommend this unit.

Comments about Braun Slide Scan 4000:

Overall, the product is okay, except when it gets jammed. It's really hard to undo the jammed slides in the feeder. Although, there is a button to release the jammed slide from the feeder; it doesn't work when the slide is jammed. Therefore, it would be great if there was a release button or lever to remove the feeder from the machine when it gets jammed. Other then that, the product gets the job done.

        Poorly Designed Feed Mechanism

Comments about Braun Slide Scan 4000:

I have had this scanner for about a month, now, and find that the quality of the scanned photos is very good. The ICE software does a good job and the color of the scanned images is faithful to the original.
The feed mechanism, however, is very poorly designed, considering that the only reason one would buy this scanner is to scan batches of slides. The standard feeder (50 slides) that comes with the scanner has slots that are so narrow that any slightly warped or frayed cardboard slide has a tendency to jam. The 100 slide tray sold as an accessory is a good idea and seems to work better, but there is no mechanism to positively control the tray as it rotates in the feed slot. Gravity causes the tray to rotate randomly with the result that slides do not feed in an orderly manner - some are skipped, some repeat.
As a consequence of these poor feed mechanisms, the scanned images from every batch have to be carefully reviewed and those that are missing or partially scanned need to be repeated. Overall, this is a tedious and frustrating process. Obviously, the Braun engineers have not spent any time with this system - I doubt that it would be possible to scan three or four batches of slides without these problems becoming obvious.

Comments about Braun Slide Scan 4000:

I only purchased the Braun 4000 Scanner a few weeks ago and have already scanned 1500 slides with it. The scanner took a few days getting use to it and understanding how it works. Overall the scanner does a decent job with occasional slide jams. The slides should be in good shape (not warped)and be of standard grade. I had some slides that had a very thin cardboard edge which tended to jam in the machine.

The ICE and Cyberview X software works great in producing good images of the slides but the software shuts down at times and then I have to restart the procedure. Not a big deal.

I bought the 100 slide tray and when combined with the 50 slide tray it helps to make the work go more quickly. It takes time to load and off load the trays so this can be done while one of the trays is in the machine. You can also edit the pictures while the slides are being scanned which also saves a lot of time. Scanning slides at 3600 dpi (a setting I always use) does take time but it's worth getting a slide that can be printed out later on.

While the price of the scanner is high I would definitely recommend this scanner to others who will be scanning a lot of slides. It's worth it.
