The Alesis Multimix-16 USB 2.0 is a 16 input mixer with internal effects processor and USB 2.0 connection for direct integration with computer based workstations. The faster USB 2.0 connection provides ultra-fast, low-latency, 24-bit/44.1-96kHz multi-channel audio recording. The mixer is suitable for professional or project level recording and sound reinforcement. The mixer features 8-mono inputs and 4-stereo via balanced 1/4" TRS phone inputs. ALT 3/4 outputs provide alternate signal routing to recorders, monitors etc. The Multimix-16 USB 2.0 features 8-microphone inputs with up to 50dB of preamp gain and phantom power (global switched). An internal digital effects processor provides 100 preset effects and an easy to read display. Among the included effects are a variety of reverbs, delays, chorus effects and more.
Every channel features a 3-band EQ and 2 aux sends (switchable). PFL/Solo in place switches isolate signal on that channel with a single push of a button. Mute switches are featured on every input channel. The mute switch disables the signal on a channel while simultaneously routing the signal to the ALT 3/4 output bus. Independent Main Mix and Alt 3/4 levels allow users to separately control the levels of the Multimix's two stereo buses.

Comments about Alesis Multimix -16 USB 2.0 Recording Mixer with Effects:
I have owned a lot of Alesis gear, so it comes as no surprise to me that this unit has all the usability that I have come to expect form an Alesis product. Well made, high quality components put together in a nearly indestructable cabinet. All the analog functions works as advertised, pots and faders are quiet and smooth, and busses are clearly identified and outputs readily defined for specific uses (aux 1 & 2, 3-4, main out, cntrl room out, etc). I am using this unit in strictly an analog capacity as a keyboard/outboard sub-mixer and cannot review its USB capabilities or the accompanying software (this is the only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5). I had been waiting for several months for it's little brother to be released with similar analog features but lower digital resolution (at a considerable savings). But after waiting 5 months for its release from Alesis I decided to pony up the additional couple of hundred dollars for this unit. Now that I have it, I wish I had done it sooner.

I have followed and used Alesis for years and Cubase Recording. As a Brand Alesis has always been the head of the crowd and the first to come up with new and now tec. that surpasses anything else you can buy. No other mixer offers up to 96khz recording under a thousand dollors. If you need a small board for live recording and the home recording studio under a budjet this is your board. You will get better clearity than any other. The only think that could have been improved is more main out puts.

Comments about Alesis Multimix -16 USB 2.0 Recording Mixer with Effects:
The ever elusive goal of live multitrack recording that doesn't break the bank has made real strides with the Alesis USB 2.0 series.
Since most laptops don't have firewire it has been problematic to get an interface board that did it all in USB.
This thing is amazing for the price. The preamp pots are a bit finicky but with some play they will do the job. I have done two live recording session with two different bands and so far. Both the bands and I are happy.
True multitracking on a board that can also run sound to a live room was achieved. The effects don't send to the computer (at least not how I have it set up) so the tracks are clean and as clear as the microphones, amps and preamped instruments will let them be.
All of the usual headaches of chords and amps and instruments that send a low buzz still exist but they are mostly external instrument and chord problems that I was able to troubleshoot away.
Good workhorse live sound setup is nothing to sneeze at.
Of course the documentation and drivers etc. are a bit dicey (I have a 64bit laptop and that made the disc that came with it fairly useless.) But most drivers and many answers can be found if you look online.

The driver is written by a Greek company called Polytec. Alesis does a poor job of keeping its drivers up today. I don't blame the driver company, Alesis has to pay them for them to continue to write usable drives for Alesis's current product line.
The mixer works except when it doesn't on a PC, after a few minutes its Rice Krispes (snap, crackle, and pop) until you power cycle either the mixer or the computer.

I've had this mixer for about 18 months. I use it as my sound card on my windows XT computer via USB.
I'm about to find out if it works well with windows 7. The driver support hasn't been very current.
