The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Autofocus Lens is a high performance, water-resistant, and ultra wide-angle L-series lens. The optical design has been improved to offer better edge-to-edge image quality. In addition, it features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo. Improved AF algorithms will help the lens to focus faster and quieter.
All of the "L" lenses deliver optical performance equal to similar fixed focal lengths lenses, and the USM lenses do this with silent, high-speed focusing. Distortions and aberrations are remarkably small for a lens of such amazing capabilities.

- Ring-type USM provides ultra-quiet, super-fast, precision auto focusing and predictive tracking
- Full-time manual focus override (even in AF mode)
- Circular aperture diaphragm produces brilliant out-of-focus characteristics

Fantastic wide angle lens that really shines on a full frame body such as the Canon 5D Mark II.I originally had the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM which produced good images with high contrast and good colour reproduction, but sharpness was poor. In comparison, the 16-35mm II is ultra-sharp in the middle and more than acceptable in the corners (even when pixel peeping), with fantastic contrast and colours. At the moment I'm very disappointed in the 16mm setting. Unless I don't know how to use it properly, it's useless at that setting unless you want to be doing some sort of distortion photography for pop art. Lots of vignetting at that setting and lots of distortion that I can't even fix in Photoshop. I wanted it for indoor real estate photography, don't really need to be at 16mm, so it can pass. I love the 35mm setting. It's gorgeous! Photos don't even need any editing at all. But I guess I'm thinking in that case, I should just buy a 35mm, if the wide angle settings aren't any good anyway. Not sure at this point what my final feelings will be. Need more practice with it.

I love this lens. It is fast, sharp and accurate. It definately adds weight to the bag, but that's a small price to pay. Its untrasonic focusing is very fast, and quiet. I have only had it about a month, but it seems durable, built like a tank. I highly recommend this lens.

It's a great lens. I got 24-105mm F4L, 70-200 F2.8L II and prime 50mm, but wanted to buy a little bit wider lens. I used this ultra wide angle lens for President campaign rally in N.H. last week and worked great! Although it's a F2.8 lens, I usually use F4 because of sharpness of the image. Definitely my favorite!

I was hesitant to buy this because I wasnt sure how useful it would be since I already own the 24-70mm. Afterall, this 16-35 is only 8mm wider than the 24-70. To cut it short, the 16-35 is a completely different lens. Its much, much wider than I originally thought it would be. Hard to make sense of it without actually seeing the difference side-by-side. The algorithims used in the design of this lens really make a huge difference... dont let those extra 8mm fool you, it really doesnt tell the whole story. I can get shots that my 24-70 simply cant take. This lens really copmleted my travel kit, along with my 24-70 & 70-200.

Great overall 2.8 wide angle lens. I use it mostly for indoor event shoots when I have a small area in which to shoot and the light is less than desirable. The only bad thing about this lens to me is the lens hood seems to be a little hard to attach compared to other Canon lenses. Other than that its a great lens!

Great versatile ultra-wide lens for full frame EOS cameras. The lens matches beautifully with my 24-70 and 70-200 L series lenses I've had for years, and it really does well in the corners.
I had rented the lens for a shoot and had to save up to own it, since I knew right away that I needed it to round out my zoom lens kit. It really is amazingly consistent through the corners, and allows for a lot of flexible options in video production, which is the main use I have for my rig.
