I just ordered this backpack in preparation for a trip to Alaska. I feel like I spent a month going over every single camera backpack before settling on this one.
Things I like:
I got the smallest model and it's still plenty big for all my and my family's gear.
It's sturdy, well made.
I like the pullout rain cover.
Things I don't like:
The front pocket are long and odd shaped and doesn't hold as much as I'd like. I would have preferred larger side or front pockets. I space to put filters I'm using for batteries... it isn't padded and I don't see how it would keep my filters from breaking.
With the waterproof cover underneath the bag, the bag does not sit up on it's own. You always have to lean it on something.
The waterproof zippers are hard to open and only have strings on them to pull.
My biggest complaint - the back/side strap is not removable. It would have been MUCH better if this was removable.
There was no instruction for using the guide lock. Not sure of it's purpose.
Two small side pockets are inadequate.
If I had to do it over again, I would not have purchased this bag. It was too expensive to have this many issues for me.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 100 AW Backpack:
I received this Vertex 100 Lowepro Backpack in the mail, and I was dissapointed. I am a smaller built woman and this bag was way to big and bulky. I liked that it would fit my Nikon D3s with a 70-200 lens attached. It had lots of storage space, and seemed to be built well. The zippers are a bit sticky, but maybe once they are used some they would slide easier. I returned this bag to B&H, and bought the Kata 3 in 1 backpack -a choice I am much happier with!

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 100 AW Backpack:
I think the laptop bit is misleading. You may be able to squeeze in a very small 14" notebook, but I feel the bag is designed to be just a camera bag and laptop carrying feature is more of an afterthought. As a camera bag alone, I would rate it 5 stars, but since it is supposed to carry a laptop as well, it loses out. The laptop compartment should have been at the back, rather than the front. I am now using it just as a camera bag and I have no complaints in that regard. Has lot of padding, decent space for a semi pro kit. Forget fast access to your camera though. For that, consider other models in the lowepro range. Vertex 100 emphasizes protection more than access.

It has plenty of space and storage for everything. It also will fit in bulkhead storage when flying on airplane, so I don't have to check it. It carries my tripod and computer as well. I could not have gotten a better Christmas gift.

This pack is perfect to carry a 70-200, a 24-70,a 100 mm macro and 16-36 with body,,and lens hoods. I battery charger, plenty of room for cleaning the camera and there is also a tripod holder. Not much room for a sandwich or other minor supplies while trekking thru the smokies,, but for airline travel, it's great!

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 100 AW Backpack:
I haven't had much of an opportunity to use this yet, but I was certainly impressed with what I received.
I felt compelled to buy it after having visited Death Valley National Park at the end of January, and saw someone else with a similar bag at the park. I had decided, in the parking lot at the airport, not bring my tripod because it is cumbersome and I did not have a camera bag that would hold it. I ultimately regretted not bringing it with me, although it would have been a pain in the neck to carry the tripod by hand.
It holds a Slik 700DX perfectly well, and it has a sensible design that allows easy and quick access to various lenses, and other accessories without having to fiddle around with haphazard compartments, that spew camera accessories everywhere, when you try to open them. I also don't know what qualifies as a belt-strap, because the specifications on the website imply that it does not have one, which is not the case. It also has a strap that connects the two shoulder straps, when worn, for some added support.
The compartments are pretty well padded, as well.

This is a great bag! Good price too. It fits all of my camera and equipment perfectly, and there is room for more (saving up for more lenses). :) The quality is great too. Most other bags only had one or two of the features that I want/need so I was going back and fourth having to choose until I found this one. It has the waterproof zippers, the rain cover and great space and a tri-top holder. It also is not heavy, I am a smaller framed girl, and carry my camera with me everywhere, so it is very comfortable for me.
I will definatley recommend this bag to others!
Proud new owner!

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 100 AW Backpack:
I love my new backpack! I have been using a Lowepro Pro Runner 200 AW Backpack for quite a while, but it is way too small for me and my gear. With the purchase of my last dslr (Nikon D700) I found that I was really putting too much pressure on the zippers of the Pro Runner for my comfort. I generally carry two bodies (now a D700 and a D200) along with multiple lenses. The new Vertex 100 allows me to carry the two bodies, four or five lenses, two flashes, and other misc. accessories. It has a space for my laptop, and the tripod holder feels very secure.
So far, I haven't found anything I'm really not happy with. It's a great backpack: easy to pack, easy to carry, easy to get to my gear.

This is a great way to have all my needed equipment (including my laptop)in one grab and go bag. I matched it up with the Gizto Traveler tripod that I strap to the pack and I am ready for anything.

It's a good backpack to carry bigger lenses such as 70-200mm f 2.8 and a laptop. This backpack is comfortable and full of spaces to store little things

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 100 AW Backpack:
This is about as compact a backpack as imaginable to fit two camera bodies and several lenses. The pack allows for carrying a tripod in the vertical rather than the horizontal position where it would be sure to snag in narrow passages. There is also a flat compartment for a notebook computer, sensibly located outside (on top of) the main camera and lens compartment for easy access.
