This case size is very versatile. This is what I can fit in it.
Canon 24-70 with hood reversed, a bit tight with hood, but works fine. Comfortable without hood.
Canon 100mm macro f/2.8L with hood comfortably.
16-35 f/2.8 fits but hood will not fit, too wide.
24mm TSE older version fits easily, and hood can also fit if not attached to the lens.
50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 on top of each other.
580EX II fits straight or folded.
TC 2X II and 1.4X II fits comfortably on top of each other.
Will not fit 70-200 f4 or f2.8.

Bought it for a Nikon 75-300 - which doesn't fit on it. Kept it for an 18-200 - fits w/ space to spare.
I'm using it to store the lens in my house when not in use. Or to carry lenses around. But I'm about 100% sure no lens inside the case would survive a drop - not even from a small height. Not that much of padding inside.
Also: has an internal pocket topside. I'm using it to hold silica gel packets - but now I'm left w/o an internal pocket where to store, say, a filter. LowePro could add another internal pocket, maybe between the padding & the outside, for the silica gel.
Big negative: if you have more than one of these (like me - I have three), you have to open each one to know what lens is inside. Why doesn't LowePro add a holder or a tag on the outside? So you can write down what's inside ?
Would I buy it again? Not so sure.

I compared a few different brands of the same size and this one won as the best value. The construction & material quality is so good that I could not justify spending more on other brands.
As a size reference, I got this to fit a Nikon AF-S 70-300. It fits perfectly with lens hood reversed.

Comments about Lowepro Lens Case 2S - for Mid-Range Zoom or Compact Telephoto Lens (Black):
Zippered padded case allows lens to be totally enclosed and quite easily retrieved. The lens cap webbing helps retain it in the case. And fits easily in the camera case - although bulky the only "problem".

Perfect fit for my Tamron af 70-300mm f/4-5.6 sp-di-vc Zoom Lens. Fits like a glove with very good padding. I can leave my lens hood on the lens backword and still fit in the case. LOVE THIS CASE!

Lens case fits 24-70 f/2.8 without the lenshood.
It is a bit tight but does the job. I like it this way so I can attach it to my S&F belt or on the side of the backpack for faster access.

Comments about Lowepro Lens Case 2S - for Mid-Range Zoom or Compact Telephoto Lens (Black):
This fits my Canon 70-300 f/ 4-5.6 lens with a lens hood perfectly. This does not have a strap unfortunately, but I can see that it would be easy to make one. There are loops (not actually loops, but same function) on the sides and the backside. I think I may get a couple carabiners and some webbing and make my own that can be stowed away as needed. Other than the lack of straps, this is a great product. There is a flap over the zipper, so even when it's unzipped it will still keep most of the dust out. There is a place in the lid to put your lens cap and a secure velcro flap on the back for attaching this to a (pants) belt or lens belt.

I bought this case because the one provided by the manufacturer of the lens I bought does not offer enough padding. This lens case is ideal for traveling or you can also use it to store your lens when not in use. It offers enough protection for storage and travel purposes.

This is a big, sturdy case suitable for a mid-range tele or a good size lens with shade attached. It has strong 'ears' for strap mounting and a large, stout belt flap with Velcro keeper. I mounted it on a photo cart where it protects mid-size lenses from jostling and the inevitable handling hits no other care will minimize. Nice-looking, well-made, stout in every aspect and a tremendous value for its cost.

Comments about Lowepro Lens Case 2S - for Mid-Range Zoom or Compact Telephoto Lens (Black):
Very high quality case with excellent padding and easy access. Remember when selecting case sizes to consider whether you carry lenses with the detachable hood mounted in reverse (Nikon). I had hoped to carry my Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8 in the LowePro 2S but can only fit it in w/o the hood. Same for other similar size lenses. Order large. Otherwise excellent product with nice options for attaching it your belt or other bags.

Comments about Lowepro Lens Case 2S - for Mid-Range Zoom or Compact Telephoto Lens (Black):
I use it far more than the rather strange case that came with my Nikon lens. It straps to my shooting belt and sits flat against my hip rather than sagging like the Nikon bag does. While it is not a hard case it works well for protecting my gear.

This is a huge case, definitely not for wearing on your belt. But your heavy and expensive lens would be really safe. It fits a Nikon 16-35mm very well with hood reversed. Its very well made and the padding is amazing.
