The Gitzo GS1510KB Low-Level Medium-Length Center Column Kit is for use with series 1 tripods, and is of intermediate length between the standard center column originally supplied with these tripods, and the very short columns previously supplied as a separate accessory. Its length is designed to provide the lowest shooting angle of the tripod, with the legs not extended but opened to the widest angle.
The kit consists of a 6X-type carbon fiber tube, plus the necessary components for the Ground Level Set feature: a machined aluminum Safe Lock upper disc, redesigned reversible screw, and hook assembly.
This shorter column allows the user to take full advantage of the variable leg spread of the tripod, so that you are not inhibited by the length of the column as to how low to the ground you can go.

Comments about Gitzo GS1510KB Low-Level Medium-Length Center Column Kit for Series 1:
I bought the GS1510KB intended to use with my older serie 1 aluminum tripod, G1126 MK2. I wish they make this older one with the new none rotational leg sections. My tripod looks small but can take lot of gear weight! Bad surprise, this new center column doesn't fit well in the old tripod.
My old trpiod's non rotational center column has a bigger metal catch than the grove of this new center column. It goes in the tripod but doesn't fit all the way in. That means the center column can not be tightened!
I tried it with my Induro AT114.
I took the original center column out of the Induro and replaced it with this new carbon CC. Bingo, they match fitted perfectly.
One thing on the Induro, I bought it because I just couldn't find the size and weight in the Gitzo aluminum tripods similiar to the Induro AT114. For the money, and in my review I had written when I just bought it, everything seemed perfect. After a few months of usage, one of the last sections sticks hard and needs a hard pull and twist to get it out of the shell. It shouldn't have happened but it did all the time.
On low level shooting, the Induro and this short GS1510KB, with only the first leg sections used, it can go very low. If you put the end of the GS1510KB all the way on the ground, this way will make the tripod a very stable oen.
Oh, the GS1510KB has that heavy feel to it, not light at all!

It's a bit expensive but it works, in retrospect I could have just taken out the column all together and saved some money

Comments about Gitzo GS1510KB Low-Level Medium-Length Center Column Kit for Series 1:
This is an excellent product and works perfectly with my Gitzo tripod. When it arrived without a carry bag I was a little surprised, especially given the price and also that most other items I've ever purchased by Gitzo were supplied along with an individual bag.

This little tripod Rock Steady for Large 85m Spotting Scope as well as compliment of EOS's an lenses. Needed to get down real low, this bried center Column allows that giving me a full service tripod to do all that I do

Comments about Gitzo GS1510KB Low-Level Medium-Length Center Column Kit for Series 1:
This is great versus the standard center colum extension. If you are tall and getting back pains or neck pains from leaning over the tripod or you are having to extend the center column all the way not to bend down this allows you to get a tall tripod and still get low to the ground for hyperfocal or macro shots. Its somewaht expensive. Gitzo should give you a choice of center column sizes or cut the prices or the other lenght center columns to allow people of all hieghts to get what they need.
