Tamrac Velocity 8x Pro Sling Pack (Black)
The black Velocity 8x Pro Sling Pack from Tamrac opens up a world of shooting possibilities for you. It's rated to hold your Pro DSLR with a grip and 8" lens attached, two extra lenses, flash and various accessories. The camera is held facing down in shooting position supported by padded, movable internal dividers. The pack is ostensibly worn on your back but can easily be swung to the front for rapid access as a sling pack. The comfortable strap is padded and distributes the weight evenly making this pack a joy to tote around. There's also a top carry handle for quick grab situations. The pack is made from rugged 600D PolyTek.
The pack is characterized by a front Quick Flip Top that open away from your body providing both rapid access to the camera as well as helping with security since no one around you will be able to see inside the pack. There's also a unique Tuck-A-Way Waist Belt that can be rapidly deployed when you go hiking or ride your bike. The belt adds significant stability to the pack by preventing it from shifting around while you're active. The top lid features an inside accessory pocket for anything small like a lens cap or memory card. In the front, there's a larger zippered accessory pocket that contains multiple slots for everything from your smart phone to memory cards. And speaking of memory cards, the Velocity 8x employs Tamrac's exclusive Memory & Battery Management System that is comprised of little red flags that can indicate which are fresh cards or batteries and which are expired or used up.
In addition, the pack makes use of Tamrac's very versatile Modular Accessory System that will permit you to add on additional pouches to hold anything from another lens to a water bottle. This is a fantastic all around bag for carrying your camera and essential gear while on day-trips at home or while traveling abroad. I was initially hesitant to buy it due to several negative views on the bag's comfort and accessibility. I can now safely say that I did not find this to be the case at all, and I am very happy that I went with it.
The bag comfortably fits a D300 with 18-200 lens attached, as well as two other fairly large lenses / accessories in the main compartment, with plenty of extra room for nick knacks in the front zippered pouch. The strap is extremely comfortable, the bag fits snugly to the body, and slings around easily to the front at any length adjustment. Getting to the camera is quick and easy.
My only minor complaint was that the zipper to the main compartment is one sided and opens on the side that that is facing towards the ground, thus there is a small danger of the camera falling out if you're not careful (while the bag is slung to the front). Aside from that, the design is brilliant.
Highly recommended, particularly for day-tripping and excursions.

I bought this pack as an alternative to a backpack for a trip to New York City. I almost bought the 7x model, but decided to go a little larger. After carrying the pack for 3 whole days on foot, in cabs, and on the subway, here is my review.
Contents of bag: one regular body DSLR with 10-70 lens, 2 memory card holders, 1 small P&S camera (which I mainly carried in my pants or coat pocket. Sometimes my iPod Touch. A small headlamp. Sometimes my Tilley hat and/or light gloves. Various brochures, a NYC map.
The pack is large enough for a DSLR with medium zoom and 1-2 extra lens. However, I found that arranging the padded dividers to make everything accessible was nearly impossible. One of the main reasons for this difficulty with that the hook/loop system is SO STRONG you have to remove all the contents to get to something under one of the dividers--otherwise you will probably end up pulling it all out anyway, and probably onto the pavement. I didn't even know there was more space in the very bottom of the pack until I started ripping out the dividers. There is no way to make a "flap" to get at stuff on the bottom, you just have to remove the dividers. Again, the hook/loop is so strong and "grabby" that it is difficult to tweak the dividers' positions.
The other big problem I have with this pack is the padding on the shoulder strap. I am 6' tall, 200 lbs (or so) with long arms. When I extended the strap to make the bag work like it is supposed to (swing from front to back) and have it at an easily accessible height in front of my body, the last bit of padding on the strap was not on top of my shoulder, but somewhere down my back. When I adjusted the strap so the padding was over my shoulder, the pack was a bit too high for easy access when in front, but that was my only option, so that's how I used it.
I got really tired of carrying this pack all day. I kept having to shift it around on my shoulder, and also noticed a sore spot on my ribs on the right side where the strap goes under the arm. Remember, I did not have this pack loaded up with all the gear suggested by Tamrac.
I like the concept of this pack, but I just don't like the pack. Changes I would make would be to extend the padding at least another 6" longer, and make it 1/2" to 1" wider where it goes over the shoulder. A better way to keep the loose end of the strap in place would also be nice.
I would also divide it differently, making a large compartment with top access and a separate bottom compartment with side or front access. I might even leave off any outer pocket as things just seem to get lost in there because you can't open it far enough to see inside without taking it off.
I have lots of Tamrac gear, so I know its quality. And I really do like the "sling" concept, especially for riding in public conveyances, as you can bring it forward to sit without having to remove it like you would a backpack, and it's good for quick access to gear. But in practical application, there are some serious design flaws in the Velocity bag line.

I was looking for a day trip bag to carry my Canon 7D and 70-200mm lens. I was looking at the Velocity 7X Sling but decided on the 8X Sling just for a little extra room.
My biggest concern was I am only 4'10" tall so I did not want a bag that would be huge against my petite frame but yet it had to be be big enough to hold my 7D and 70-200 lens attached.
This sling worked out perfect for what I was looking for. It is perfect for running around for the day. Especially if all you need is your camera, attached lens, and extra batteries and flash (or extra lens). I would not recommend this bag if you want need something to haul a lot of equipment. If that is what you need this sling would be just a little to small for your needs.
Another bag I purchased for when I need to take more equipment is the Tamrac Expedition 4X backpack. It holds my 7D and 70-200 lens attached and a whole lot more (everything I need). And the size of the backpack is perfect for my small frame. It looks like a normal size pack on me. But, if you were 5'6 or 6' it would probably feel like a very nice mini-pack to you.
Both the Velocity 8x Sling Pack (if you don't try to overstuff it) and the Expedition 4X Backpack can both easily be used for a day hike.

I just upgraded from a Canon Rebel XT to Canon T3i. It came with a Canon case, which is a suitcase. I purchased the Tamrac 5768 because it is user friendly. I need to carry my camera and accessories into sporting events and down onto the playing field at times. The Tamrac solution is much better than the bulky Canon case. The camera, a magnification lens, external flash, extra batteries and memory cards all fit fine. And I hang it over my shoulder. Super-duper!

I returned it because it was esthetically too unattractive. My goal is to take beautiful pictures and having a sleek case to remove my equipment from to get me in the mind set to take wonderful images is important. I want everything that I use to be well designed. It held a great of equipment but it was massive to carry and unattractive.

Just what I was looking for while traveling on vacation or hiking. Has room for my Canon 7D with 70-300mm L lens with hood reversed. Canon 24-105mm L with hood reversed and Canon speedlite 430 with it's case in the main compartment. Has plenty of room in the front compartment for all my incidentals. Is well constructed and comfortable.

I'm using this to hold a 7D with 70-200 f/4 IS attached in the center pocket, with Sigma 17-70 OS and Sigma 8-16 in each of the side pockets. Even with all of these, there still is some room left over for a Canon 50mm 1.8, and plenty of space in the front pocket. It's a great bag when I don't want to take a large bag with a ton of gear, just a small bag for on the go that won't get in the way with just enough equipment for the short trip. And it's awesome that I can easily get the camera with lens attached out of the bag without having to take the bag off.

I use it for a nikon body with a 70-200 2.8 and a 24-70. It fits with either lens attached, and has enough room for the other lens and a flash in the main compartment. If you used the lower sections of the main compartment, you could fit in a couple of other small lenses, but these would be difficult to access. The outside pocket has room for memory, batteries, and some other small items (tripod head).
The bag seems to be very well constructed.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well as the video makes it look. I am 6'-1" and if I adjust the strap loose enough to swing around in front, the padded part of the strap completely misses my shoulder. Instead, I just use it as a shoulder bag. This could be fixed if the padding was movable or a few inches longer. I wish there was an option of a similar size that would fit the 70-200 on the camera but was shaped more like a traditional rectangular bag.

I have used this bag while walking around town, hiking, and even snow tubing. Its design makes it very easy to slide it from your back to your front quickly. The main pocket is closed with a zipper and a clip on either side, making it extra secure. Overall, this is a great bag that is a perfect size for my needs.

I just recently purchased this bag and love this style better than the previous models!! I love the way it opens up from the hip rather than from the outside towards you. I don't feel like my equiptment is going to fall out. It is very accessable, and very roomy for all your things. I carry 2-3 lenses, flash among other small equiptment and I feel like it could hold more if i needed it. Have recommended this bag to other photographers looking for a new bag to use!!

I give this "Sling Pack" 5 Stars because it holds all the gear that I need to take on a typical photo shoot. A typical photo shoot for me is a few miles of walking and on average 3 lens changes. I can put in my Sony A700 with a Vertical Grip and 16-105mm lens with no problem and it is not too tight as some would say. I also pack in 2 other main lenses along with my Flash teleconvertors(2)a charging pack for my camera batteries, flash batteries, extra cards, etc... The way this pack slings around to the front with all your gear in and very easy to reach is what I always wanted. Wish I would of found this before I bought that big heavy Backpack that sits in my closet collecting Dust... Buy this and you will not be disappointed at all.

I took it to the beach today and it was so easy to get my 50D in and out of it. The strap is very comfortable also. It makes it all so light weight that I hardly knew I had it slung on my back. My 18mm to 270 mm even fits into it with no problem.

I use this bag for my Canon 50D with the 400mm lense attached and it fits perfectly. It's very easy to swing the bag right around to the front of you and it's easy and fast to pull the camera right out. I haven't put anything else in the bag yet but there is room. It may get too heavy if walking around with more stuff in it though. I definitely recommend it.

I purchased this bag to take my gear on vacation with the family. I wanted to bring a Nikon D700 with MB-d10 grip, 70-300 VR lens, 24-120 VR lens, and an SB-800 along with batteries, memory cards, and a wireless shutter release. According to Tamrac's website, this bag will accomodate all of my gear. I find it to be a little bit tight. I have to stuff the camera and strap to get it to fit. While tight, however, it still works great. I had no problem carrying this bag, turning it to access gear, and it didn't get in the way. I was able to fit everything that I wanted to bring in it. There was still room for odds and ends - I brought 14 AA batteries, one spare CF card, a small flashlight, lens pen, lens cloth, shutter release and a writing pen and still had extra space. All in all I am pleased with this bag but would have liked to have a bit more room for my camera to fit.
