I've used this to stick a field monitor on a stand, and for various last-minute rigs. Everyone should have a sack of stuff like this with their grip gear.
You'll need to get a 1/4-20 lock washer and nut though....

It does what I bought it for - holding cold shoes, ball heads and other things to light stands and boom poles. I got this because an umbrella swivel isn't always required (and is a lot bulkier in a travel bag).
Such units should come with a locking nut on the 1/4 x 20 bolt. It's not hard to add your own though.

Comments about Smith-Victor Universal To 1/4 X 20 Screw Adapter:
Just as described. I bought it to attach my nikon AS-10. the screww is too long and now I need to buy a bolt to tighten it. for other uses should be just fine. it'r cheap and seems reasonably weel made, but next time I'll go with the manfrotto equivalent, wich come aalready with the bolt.

Comments about Smith-Victor Universal To 1/4 X 20 Screw Adapter:
These stand adapters are fantastic for building homemade lighting rigs and accessories. The price point is unbeatable, however they probably won't withstand strenuous, heavy-duty use...for that I would use the Bogen/Avenger version. Overall though, I am very pleased.
